"and her commercial certificate on March 19, 2026"
So she's had her commercial certificate for--let me check my notes--barely over SEVEN MONTHS--and she's been put in the co-pilot seat of a a $15 million dollar jet with nine souls on board traveling at 37,000 feet, internationally, over open water.
I don't for a moment believe Nathalia was acting with malice. She'd been told her whole life that she possessed an AMAZING COMPETENCY, and she BELIEVED IT.
It simply WASN'T TRUE, and it KILLED HER. And EVERYONE ELSE on that flight.
This is Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, the 20-year-old co-pilot of Learjet N722BD.
She earned her private pilot certificate in 2023 at age 17 and her commercial certificate on March 19, 2026. She had logged more than 1,300 hours. Full of life... you can tell she loved flying.
She was among the nine lost near Greenacres, Florida.
They are with Jesus now.
Pray for her family and everyone grieving.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Co-pilots on US charter jet flights require only a commercial pilot certificate with instrument rating; captains need an ATP. It is standard for charter operators to hire early-career commercial pilots as SICs to gain jet experience alongside qualified captains.

❗️ A Dutch Starlink user says he got a Paramount piracy notice within two days of torrenting a single episode of Dexter: Resurrection.
Starlink forwarded it with a warning that further downloads could get his service suspended or terminated and put him at risk of legal action.
He says 24 years of torrenting had never brought him a single notice before. In the Netherlands, the Supreme Court ruled in 2021 that a major ISP did not have to hand alleged pirates' details to a film distributor. So the user thought he was safe.
Starlink, a US company bound by the DMCA, has said it is obliged to pass such notices on.
