Guys, @morbidorigin wrote another wise, sharp, and heartfelt book. It’s called HARD FEELINGS and it’s personal—about what to do with and how to think about dark emotions (his, mine, yours)—and it’s out now.
From a psychotherapist and the New York Times bestselling author of Monkey Mind, a thoughtful, deeply personal exploration of our most difficult emotions. Hard Feelings, available 3/3/2026: bit.ly/45aOYzl

This is a warmly touching, brilliant example of Stephen Koch's prose; & a glimpse into a most unusual friendship.

For The New Yorker, I wrote about my daughter's transition at age 26--the initial surprise, and the long, edifying period of adjustment, which has transformed us both (and which isn't over yet). newyorker.com/magazine/2025/…

If you're in the Boston area, you've got to go!
A reminder: I'll be speaking at Boston's historic First Church on Wednesday night at 7:00. This is essentially the parish of both Emerson and his father, and I'll discuss that troubled father-son relationship, among other things. firstchurchboston.org/events…

If, like me, you’ve always found Emerson a little impenetrable (“Nature” has defeated me several times), I recommend this by @jamesamarcus, which I just finished and love. Opened up Waldo’s work in a whole new way. Chs on Thoreau/Fuller and abolition are particular standouts.

Herzog's aphorisms delightfully tow that fine line between self and self parody. When it comes to documentaries, he bristles at the thought of being a mere fly on the wall: “I’d rather be a hornet”

Another sign that the oligarchy needs to be reined in.
Property developer and CEO Tim Gurner: "We need to see unemployment rise. Unemployment has to jump 40, 50 percent in my view. We need to see pain in the economy. We need to remind people that they work for the employer, not the other way around."

Can’t believe I won’t see Chris in the hallways anymore. A good and generous editor and person. I will miss him
We're sorry to report the death of @WSJ Books editor Christopher Carduff at age 66. He led the Book reviews and literary coverage for six years. He was generous to colleagues and contributors, and we will miss his breadth of knowledge and attention to craft.
