Ducking real contenders isnt a new thing in the Khabib camp
🚨 Islam Makhachev explains why he turned down the Carlos Prates fight in January "They offered me a fight with Prates, who recently lost to [Ian Garry], someone I beat. If I beat him, Morales would already be next in line, who's not fighting and waiting for [a title shot]. Just let them fight and we will figure out who's the real challenger." (via pound4padel/IG)

This “true number one contender” thing between Prates & Morales really baffles me. Are we really trying to act like Prates isn’t the clear contender rn? He slaughtered 2 champions back to back and Geoff Neal all within a 9 month span. Morales just hasn’t done much yet.

Imagine if Ilia had said the same shit when he was the Champion about Gaethje needing to fight Arman first for a number 1 contender

Let's be real, it's total bullshit that there's an interim welterweight title on the line. Islam last fought in August. This fight is happening in January. That's 5 months later. What the hell are we doing? Look at Carlos Ulberg. He last fought in April, tore his ACL, and there's no sign of him coming back. Yet they haven't created an interim title in his division. Now, I absolutely love Prates vs. Morales. It's a freaking amazing fight, and I'm happy they get the potential perks of a title fight. But there is absolutely no need for an interim title fight, unless they're mad at Islam for not taking this fight. If the UFC needs something to happen, they're gonna change their own rules and make it all that much more confusing for everyone.

Islam has 5 great wins at best. I could see him at number 15/14 but he isnt in mine. He is rarely fighting his # 1 contenders & continues to not do so in favor of them fighting each other. Its like Tito Ortiz not fighting Liddell and letting Liddell beat the other contenders.

One last thing on the whole welterweight situation: I have no issue with Islam not coming back in 5 months. My issue is that he flip-flopped. He told us point-blank that he wanted a quick turnaround. And now he's saying Prates and Morales need to fight each other to determine the real number one contender because Prates lost to Ian? Prates just beat JDM. Before that, he beat Leon Edwards. He didn't just lose to Ian. People lose, come back, and build themselves up. Come on.

It’s genuinely hilarious how these Russian wrestlers just go into the Anthony Smith fetal position every time they face any kind of adversity😭😭😭

How do you feel about Islam wanting Prates vs. Morales for a No. 1 contender fight when his first title shot came after beating Dan Hooker and Bobby Green? 🤔 #UFC #MMA

Gaethje fought a perfect gameplan and ilia fought idiotically. Thats all, llia literally just tried to bulldoze forward. No headmovement, minimum jabs, little to no feints and almost no low kicks. He straight up believed if he touched gaethje he would die
As much as I like Ilia, I still don’t understand how he lost this fight. Everything was set up perfectly for him to win. Idk what it was, maybe Gaethje is just that good. This should’ve been the easiest of his last 4.

Nobody wants to hear this because it sounds like cope but Ilia Topuria literally lived five years straight with nothing but rocket fuel success. He effortlessly knocks out three all time great champions and we are all kind of in awe of the guy, meanwhile he is getting famous as fuck and has a beautiful family and the company has anointed him their undeniable breakout superstar. Then, a month after winning his second belt, his wife and the mother of his daughter, a woman he most likely loves and trusts, attempts to destroy his life for reasons unknown, sending him into a brutal divorce and custody battle. Have you guys never had a devastating breakup? Take that pain and multiply it by the fear of having your kids taken away (mind you this all took place in Spain, one of the most libtard countries on Earth and his wife was claiming spousal abuse with a very low evidentiary threshold.) Why did he lose? He didn’t want to be there. He was going through the motions, trying to act as if everything was normal, but it wasn’t. His head was fucked, he was off, he wanted to get the quick KO to rebuild his confidence, and he got fucked up badly. Mind you, he’s so good that he still nearly managed the finish. It was an extremely devastating image, none of us really thought he could lose because he’d already made guys far superior to Justin look average. But that’s exactly when things go wrong. Bad idea to write him off, because in reality a massive comedown like this is exactly the kind of thing truly gifted people come back from to become legends and myth.

Yan had surgery. Volk had to wait for Movsar (medically suspended). Gaethje fought twice this year. Strickland was fighting 2-3 times/yr prior to that; he's fought twice this year since. Ulberg is injured, still fought 2x/year prior. Gane is fighting again this year. Makhachev???
