Approaching end of my tenure in India as 🇧🇩Envoy, @NayanimaBasu | @GatewayHouseIND got me to a conversation, essentially to reflect candidly on the issues impacting 'road ahead' in #Bangladesh - #India ties.
As we reflected, much that the two people share, it's no surprise that there are (or would be) divergence of views or sensitivities in the relations. Understanding - appreciating - approaching those in all sincerity is just crucial. For 🇧🇩🇮🇳 relations to flourish, especially to yield impacts for #people at the bottom, as one friend said, "it's to be rested on a mix of long-term interests, less on short-term gains". Issues within that matrix surely ought to be approached with dignity and mutual trust.
In my modest journey, I often felt, in the long shot, here is a relation that promises to be gainfully liberated (particularly from India). And, much of the apprehensions/inhibitions can well be put at rest as well.
As much as elements within our socio-cultural canvass provide a logical foundation, wider economic interactions should match robustly, beyond (merchandised) trade.

Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE) is the country's #largest private organization promoting #sustainable growth of its #apparel and #textile industry since its inception in 2014.
Looking back over one decade of its journey, the BAE has consistently driven knowledge transfer, sustainability, #circularity, #climate action, #innovation, and #transparency through its events; while fostering the kind of industry networking that has fundamentally reshaped Bangladesh's apparel and textile landscape.
By bringing together
- 85,000+ national and #international participants and
- 2,000+ companies
- from more than 50 countries
our initiatives have positioned #Bangladesh at the heart of global apparel #manufacturing.
BAE remains steadfast in its commitment to elevating the capacity and capability of Bangladesh’s apparel industry. For us, the #transformation of Bangladesh's apparel and textile sector is not a destination -- it is a #journey that has only just begun.

PPP is the right model to revive the state’s closed industrial assets. Joined the Honorable Minister and State Minister for Textiles & Jute in a stakeholder discussion on reopening 6 closed jute mills under private initiative within 6 months, with a phased approach for the rest. Our job now is to keep structuring these idle mills for execution and move credible operators from interest to signed agreements and production. #180DayPlan

The successful democratic transition in Bangladesh we have witnessed proves what is possible when we unite behind a shared purpose.
This is our moment to rethink, rebuild, and recommit. To shape a vision that leads, strengthens competitiveness, accelerates climate action, advances circularity, and places the dignity of every worker at its core.
In this spirit, I want to proudly announce the 7th edition of the @ApparelForum (SAF), taking place on 27 April 2026.
Since 2017, Sustainable Apparel Forum is a leading forum addressing the pressing issues of Bangladesh apparel industry such as climate change, renewable energy, circularity, due diligence, human rights, fair wages, purchasing practices, transparency etc. and through 6 successful editions, the SAF has been the platform where manufacturers, policymakers, brands, development partners and sustainability experts gather to turn commitment into action.
For 7 years, we’ve brought together:
- 400+ speakers
- 50+ panel sessions.
- 12 roundtables.
- 30+ workshops.
- 10 policy papers
- 100+ exhibitors,
- 160+ partners & contributors
- 5,000+ delegates.
- 20+ countries.
Along the way, we’ve built trust, forged lasting partnerships, and driven the conversations that truly matter. Now, we take the next step. SAF 2026 will convene the voices that matter to help shape the future policies, strategies, and partnerships.

I congratulate Prime Minister @takaichi_sanae and her party on their decisive victory in Japan’s parliamentary elections.
The result reflects the confidence of the Japanese people in democratic participation and accountable leadership. Japan once again demonstrates how credible elections can produce stability, clarity of direction, and renewed public trust in institutions.
As Bangladesh approaches its own national elections, this moment carries an important lesson for all democracies: when citizens are allowed to freely exercise their right to vote, the outcome strengthens the nation, regardless of political affiliation. Free, fair, and peaceful elections are the foundation of progress, empowering citizens to shape their future and affirm the legitimacy of governance.
I hope Prime Minister Takaichi’s leadership will further deepen the long-standing friendship between Japan and Bangladesh, and contribute to peace, prosperity, and democratic values across Asia.

A milestone in global trade relations.
When two major democracies act together, we build stronger shared security.
It was a great pleasure to sign a new EU–India Security and Defence Partnership with @DrSJaishankar today.
The pact launches an annual security and defence dialogue – with the first meeting taking place in a month – and deepens cooperation on maritime security, cyber issues, and counterterrorism. We will also explore Indian participation in European defence initiatives.
As the global order shifts, the EU will continue to deepen its diplomatic and economic ties across the world. Strong partnerships multiply our strength.
