Putin and Trump are both fascists, @TimothyDSnyder writes. Their use of the word to refer to their enemies is one of fascism’s essential characteristics: a fascist does not serve the language; the language serves him. nyer.cm/TlOg49f

So grateful to @GoldRosie, @DamZolt, Yael Ben Moshe,& @mpeterdavidson for joining Joachim Lang& I in Berlin. Listening to them talk about „The World Wars of Disinformation & Demagoguery“ and ‘Führer&Verführer’ has been for me one of the intellectual highlights of the year so far.

I have just finished reading this fabulous book. It is superbly written, full of raw emotion & fantastic detail. The last chapter is phenomenal - and a very difficult read in light of current events. @mpeterdavidson #books #holocaust #reading

In the @BBCPanorama at nine tonight on our school abusers there is an extraordinary sequence in a South African courtroom where @bikingpastor sits a few feet from the man who abused him when he was 9. He cried but he was calm and controlled - What would you have done? Me? Dunno.

Chris Killip’s In Flagrante is a masterpiece of photojournalism.
Poetic, and often heartbreaking, it remains the most important photobook to document the devastating impact of deindustrialization on working-class communities in northern England in the 1970s and 1980s.

If you really want to know what happened in Israel, watch this: the most painful video I’ve seen yet. Terrified Israeli family being held hostage by Hamas terrorists after they killed one of the sisters of the little girl. 💔

1./ Is the Russell Brand takedown a plot by the mainstream media? Of course not. In Plain Sight was a rigorously constructed and brilliantly made example of British current affairs documentary-making; in the finest tradition of @C4Dispatches.
