Kenya and Portugal share a long-standing bilateral partnership aimed at translating the goodwill between the two nations into tangible economic, strategic, and sector-driven development outcomes. Today, I was honoured to receive Portugal’s Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Paulo Neves Pocinho, at Maji House in Nairobi during a courtesy call. Our discussions focused on strengthening cooperation and partnership between Kenya and Portugal in the water, sanitation, and irrigation sectors. This collaboration will help transform Kenya’s water and irrigation systems by improving access to clean and safe water, dignified sanitation, and food security. We also explored investment opportunities available to Portuguese investors in Kenya, particularly in dams and the National Irrigation Sector Investment Plan (NISIP) through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). These initiatives will enhance clean water availability and increase agricultural productivity. I reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening cooperation and partnership between the two nations, especially in the water, sanitation, and irrigation sectors. I was accompanied by Water Secretary Eng. S.A.O. Alima, Irrigation Secretary for Land Reclamation, Climate Resilience and Irrigation Water Management Mr. Joel Tanui, Head of Partnership and Resource Mobilisation Ms. Florence Ndai, and other officers.

I am delighted and deeply honoured to have been unveiled as the Patron of Tulivu Foundation and Tulivu Football Club for a three-year term. Tulivu Foundation’s focus on education, sports and environmental conservation provides an important platform for empowering young people, nurturing talent and creating opportunities in our communities. This complements the Government’s continued investment in sports infrastructure, including the Raila Odinga Stadium and many others across the country, to support talent development and strengthen the future of Kenyan sports. I look forward to providing guidance and championing the Foundation and the Club as we work together to empower young people and drive positive change through education, sports and environmental conservation.

Today I joined H.E the President Dr. @WilliamsRuto during commissioning of KSh1.47 billion Mwala Cluster Water Supply Project in Mbiuni, Machakos County to address decades of water scarcity in the region. The project involves the construction of an intake weir across the River Ndarugu, a 6.6 million litres water treatment plant, a 101 Km conveyance system, seven storage tanks with a combined capacity of 3.325 million litres, and a solar-powered booster station to lift water to the Muthei Hill tank. It will act as a catalyst for urban growth, job creation, and improved public health by supplying reliable clean water to about 137,000 people and 10 institutions in about 10 centres, as envisaged in the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
