Govt must act. With every passing day, the prospects of a coherent system arising from the ashes become increasingly unrealistic. We need significant financial assistance put in place for all publicly funded lawyers; more courts & more judges trained. Now! independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho…

Worth watching.
What people won't realise is the barristers will have submitted written arguments in respect of every point the judge addressed. Then they will have had a day in court making oral submissions. The total fee for that is £126.
Which is one reason we are striking.
Judge Sarah Munro QC has made legal history as she passed the sentence on Ben Oliver for the manslaughter of his grandfather.

Those attending gatherings outside of the Central Criminal Court, Birmingham Crown Court, Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square, Leeds Crown Court, Bristol Crown Court and Cardiff Crown Court on 27.06.2022 should attend in robes if possible. What is crucial is that you are there.
Let’s pray the Government listens. The return of a strengthened Courts’ Inspectorate is desperately needed for a dysfunctional justice system that continues to fail almost all those who come into contact with it.

If £64.95 per day is considered adequate payment for jurors deciding the most serious criminal cases in our justice system, it should be adequate for the politicians who set those rates.
That’s an eye-opener. £64.95 per day for a self-employed juror. The government value jurors as poorly as everyone else in the CJS. manchestereveningnews.co.uk/…

Both sides of the profession united in their aims. We need funding, and we need it urgently.
1. Today's Times article from @DominicRaab is misleading and disappointing. It is misleading because there is no breach of public law in pressing ahead with implementing measures recommended by Sir Christopher Bellamy. We are not in a formal consultation period.

We are very lucky as a profession, to have people able to produce a document such as this. In simple terms, “You are currently getting justice on the cheap, and as a society we are all being short-changed. If you want to avoid a catastrophe, think again.”

Please may I remind @TheCriminalBar members you should be wearing surgical grade masks which are fluid repellent? Cloth is not enough.
Also just because you may have been lucky enough to have the jab it does’t mean you cannot be infectious. Try to social distance whenever poss.
