For my first story (!) as a reporter at @TheAtlantic, I traveled to Ohio to figure out if Democrats might finally win this year.
The answer: Maybe—as long they don't talk about the Democratic Party.

Iowa has extensive cycling infrastructure including bike lanes and trails, plus RAGBRAI, the world's largest multi-day bicycle tour which has crossed the state annually since 1973 with thousands of riders.

Hegseth's team broke Eisenhower's world. Literally.
Read @AlexHortonTX and @DanLamothe's tale of how Hegeth's impatience to put a historic globe in his office resulted in an embarrassing failure.
The metaphors truly write themselves.

Bring back the newsstand!!!
When I arrived at Harvard in 2014, the most cosmopolitan and glamorous place on campus was Out of Town News.
Longtime denizens of the Square remember Julia Child sourcing German and Italian cooking magazines or Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen thumbing through issues of Popular Electronics at the famed newsstand.
In the 2010s, I often stopped by to grab a chocolate bar and the latest copy of the New Yorker, and I’d spot Cornel R. West ’74 buying a copy of the New York Times or a chic Graduate School of Design student grabbing the latest Architectural Digest. I never took the newsstand for granted. I grew up in a small town in Florida where one had to travel twenty miles to a Barnes & Noble to buy a magazine or newspaper, and unlike Out of Town News, they didn’t carry Le Monde or Die Zeit.
…
A restored newsstand could not only reinstate Cambridge’s access to global journalism, it would also support the flourishing local print magazine scene that has erupted in the Boston area over the past few years.
It would be powerful to see Boston Art Review, House House Magazine (founded by Harvard undergrad Hengzhi Huang Yang ’27), Elastic (launched with Harvard’s support), and Duck (led by James Fraser of the Square’s Grolier Poetry Book Shop and his wife Bella Bennet) all in one place.
It would also link Harvard’s publications to the wider world of journalism — The Crimson and Cambridge Day could be offered alongside the Boston Globe and the New York Times, and the Harvard Review could sit alongside n+1 and The Drift (founded by Harvard graduates).
I find it hard to believe that Cambridge is less capable of supporting an international newsstand than the West Village. Harvard is home to over 10,000 international students, faculty, and researchers, providing a built-in audience for many foreign language publications. We are also a community of readers so devoted to print that we support five book stores, including ones that offer almost exclusively poetry and romance publications.

Driving through Arizona on a Saturday morning, I saw a line of cars nearly a mile long stopped along a high-desert highway. I slowed, thinking there had been an accident. Then I realized that all of those people were waiting in line for food.
Weeks later, I went back to try to understand what was going on: Going Hungry in Trump’s Economy
The president said the “American dream is back.” Rural Arizonans don’t think so.
