New: Sources from three countries confirm that the Trump Administration has advocated Viktor Orbán for UN Secretary-General.
The US has encouraged Orbán to enter the race, even bringing him the initial idea of a joint U.S.-Russia-China candidacy.

Literally, "it was OK until Jews did it."
Michael Walzer published “Just and Unjust Wars,” an attempt to delineate the rights and wrongs of warfare in both its causes and its conduct, in 1977. In the nearly 50 years since, no other book on the subject has matched its influence. The precepts are not complicated: it is just to defend your country from an invasion and it is unjust to invade a country that has not attacked you—although Walzer does allow for exceptions, mostly for humanitarian causes. It is just to assume certain risks to avoid civilian casualties and it is unjust to bomb towns indiscriminately to compel an enemy to surrender. The justice of going to war—what philosophers call jus ad bellum—is separate from jus in bello, the justice of how a war is fought.
The war in Gaza has made Walzer rethink one of the book’s fundamental principles. “The wall between jus ad bellum and jus in bello, which had sustained his theory for almost half a century, was no longer sturdy,” Jordi Graupera writes. As Walzer said to him, “There is a sense in which the carnage of Gaza, the ongoing carnage, simply made the war unjust.” Read about why a philosopher of war is now reconsidering his seminal work: newyorkermag.visitlink.me/T7…

Honored to once again host Governor Kathy Hochul for a roundtable with Williamsburg community leaders.
The Governor is a true friend and ally of the Jewish community.
We proudly endorse the Governor and will vote for her on November 3.

Fran Lebowitz: “For me, Mamdani is a left-wing Trump. He’s in my face all the time, he’s incredibly arrogant. He doesn’t know what the job is. I don’t think he cares about antisemitism.”
“There has always been antisemitism to some extent,” she adds. “Lately there is much more because it’s so acceptable. Prominent people do it, hiding behind being anti-Zionist, which some people are. I always say, you can be anti-Zionist and not antisemitic, but you can also be both.”

I am deeply disturbed by the destruction to Young Israel of West Hempstead last night and have been in contact with the shul’s leadership.
Thankfully, no one was hurt and I am grateful to law enforcement for their swift response.
Antisemitism and hate have no place in our communities. That’s why I’m a proud co-sponsor of the bipartisan Right to Worship Act to ensure our Jewish neighbors are able to worship safely and without fear.

Earlier this month, Pal-Awda boasted about forcing a Jewish community event out of Queens. Now the group has set its sights on Riverdale, targeting Jewish families in our borough simply for gathering together. Riverdale is home to one of the most vibrant Jewish communities in New York, and its families deserve to come together without fear.
Organizing a campaign to hunt down these gatherings and drive them out of our neighborhoods is an attack on Jewish New Yorkers. Pushing anyone out of public life in our city because of their faith is nothing to celebrate, and the Bronx will not tolerate it.

Today marks the third anniversary of the senseless murder of Samantha Woll, a former member of my staff, a proud Jewish woman, and a remarkable community leader whose impact continues to be felt across Metro Detroit and beyond.
Sam believed deeply in the power of people of different faiths, backgrounds, and perspectives to come together, listen to one another, and build a better future. Through her leadership, her advocacy, and her work to strengthen interfaith relationships, she showed us that bridge-building is not simply an ideal but a commitment we must choose every day.
As Sam said, “We do not know where we are going, but we are headed there together.” We have a responsibility to live up to those words and continue the work she cared so deeply about.
May her memory be a blessing, and may her example continue to guide us.
