still noodling on this. the last time robby cried in front of his mom, he was 8 years old, & it had been two weeks since his dad left. he had a nightmare & woke up shaking. the tears were big & dramatic: things had been harder without his dad. small problems seemed more serious.
after that, he was careful about his emotions. he didn't want to upset her. he wanted to be the man that would finally protect and care for her, even when he got scared or sad. he knew he was strong enough. stronger than his dad, at least.
