This is why we can’t have nice things. 🤦♂️
In this example, the utility is paying for the Netflix sub and passing on the costs.
The economics of them reselling 20 minutes or 20,000 hours of streaming is enormous!

Well they paid for 150mw regardless. That is how much they are going to be forwarding their bill to their ratepayers. So it's a constant cost .
So analogy here. If you buy a Netflix subscription that is $20 a month does it matter from the point of view of how much you spend if you watch 1hr or 200hrs
Where is this happening in CA and how can I get in on this? Link me to the interconnection agreement that allows this.

So if you were a California CCA that decided to pay for a PPA for $60 when gas marginal is $40 that gives the price opportunity for a battery to come in an charge at $10 so that it can come back and sell it to you again later in the day for $150. Who paid the difference here
Hey EnergyTwitter!
I’ve had my head down, working on a project for the last 18 months.
Did I miss anything?

🏠 The California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.) and the largest home builders in the state all oppose the amended version of AB 942.
📄In a new letter, The California Association of REALTORS® states that they "must respectfully oppose AB 942 (Calderon). Homeowners who purchased solar systems and those who want to buy homes with solar panels should not be penalized for their commitment to invest in clean energy and lower their households’ skyrocketing electricity bills."

NO on AB 942 as amended!

👀 "This should give you pause." Share with three friends who need to see this! Dr. Ahmad Faruqui is an energy economist, speaking out against AB 942 in his testimony before the Assembly Utilities and Energy Commission.
Backed by a dozen other energy economists, he explains how rooftop solar actually saves all ratepayers money. He calls for a NO vote on AB 942, and urges legislators to support the everyday consumers who invested in rooftop solar to lower their bills and do the right thing.
Dr. Faruqui has worked on rate design and other issues involving customers for nearly 150 clients throughout the world. He has worked for the California Energy Commission and has authored or edited four books on electricity pricing and customer choice and over 150 articles, papers, and reports on various energy matters and economics.
I couldn't get this idea out of my head all morning, so here we go.

Need a satire article around the utility "cost shift" argument:
"Local utility ask customers to not take more than 2 vacations per year or to leave lights on while gone to avoid unnecessary cost shifts to other customers"
@CALSSA_org @SolarInMASS @autumntjohnson @nickvanosdol
6/14 The utility "cost shift" argument? Bogus.
10% rooftop solar penetration causes a shift of +/- $0.005/kWh. That is a rounding error after 110% rate hikes over the last decade.
13/14 If utilities push flat fees too high ($140/mo like originally pitched), we'll see massive grid defection.
People will add backup propane generators to charge batteries, increasing emissions. Not great.
4/14 Utilities didn't bother figuring out how to profit from a marketplace model, encouraging small & large generators.
Instead, they worked with Newsom and the CPUC (Captive Private Utility Consortium) to protect their monopoly, successfully killing 17k jobs & 100+ companies.
2/14 NEM 3 punishes customers who don't add batteries but failed to encourage adoption or strengthen grid resiliency.
As NEM 1/2 systems lose grandfathering, people will stop exporting power and opt for behind-the-meter, self-consumption systems.
