Such an important and helpful distinction.
Jesus said, "Blessed are the MEEK, for they shall inherit the earth" (Matt 5:5). Notice he didn't say the WEAK shall inherit the earth. Since the words rhyme, people often treat them as synonyms. They aren’t. Both came into English from Old Norse, but from different roots with different meanings. So what's the difference? The Greek word for "meek" in Matthew 5:5 is praus, which was considered a virtue by ancient Greeks. Aristotle placed it as the mean between spinelessness and rage. In other words, meekness refers to strength under control. Strength to act with force when needed, but restrained. Scripture takes it further: strength restrained by humility and submission to God’s will. Think of it like a loaded weapon with the safety on. The best example of this kind of man in the OT is Moses. Earlier in his life, Moses failed in both directions. In Egypt, he murdered a man in a fit of rage. At the burning bush, he begged God to send someone else to Pharaoh. He was impulsive and timid, poor qualities for a leader. He needed to learn to trust God's power, channel his strength properly, and humbly submit himself to God's will. Later in his life, he became the MEEKEST man on the face of the earth (Num 12:3). Moses began WEAK but God made him MEEK. God made him strong, then chastened that strength with holiness. Jesus said that kind of man is blessed, and he shall inherit the earth. When we confuse MEEKNESS with WEAKNESS, we end up treating a vice as a virtue. Yes, there are times we are weak, either by nature or affliction. God uses those moments to remind us that we can do nothing apart from him and to teach us to rely more fully on his strength (John 15:5, 2 Cor 12:9). But we are not commanded to be weak. By faith, we are commanded to be strong. OT examples * "Be strong and courageous" (Deut 31:6) * "Be strong and very courageous" (Joshua 1:7) * "Be strong and courageous" (1 Chron 22:13) * "Be strong, and show yourself a man" (1 Kings 2:2) NT examples * "Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong." (1 Cor 16:13) * "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might." (Eph 6:10) * "You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus." (2 Tim 2:1) * "Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees." (Heb 12:12). I could go on, but you get the point. Weak men can't be meek men. They lack the strength meekness requires. As Jordan Peterson once said, "If you think tough men are dangerous, wait until you see what weak men are capable of." When King Hezekiah was warned by the prophet Isaiah that one day the Babylonians would plunder his house and castrate his sons to be eunuchs in the king's palace, he said "good," because at least "There will be peace and security in my days” (Isa. 39:8). Giving power to weak men is the last thing we need. They'll use their power to comfort and enrich themselves while throwing the rest of us to the wolves. The MEEK will indeed inherit the earth, as Jesus said. The strength of a meek man is a terror to the wicked. And his gentleness is a comfort to the righteous.

This! All of this.
Piety is good. Pietism is bad. The poison is in the -ism. Let me explain. We need to recover true piety, an ancient idea that’s been forgotten in our day. And we need to distinguish it from pietism. Pietism overemphasizes spiritual realities at the expense of physical ones. The pietist says, “Let’s focus on soul-winning and not get entangled in worldly affairs.” The truly pious man shares the gospel and engages the civil realm. The pietist’s mistake is assuming “spiritual” means “non-physical.” Biblically, being spiritual means being led by the Holy Spirit and obeying God’s Word. The spiritual man doesn’t confine his Christian duty to quiet times, prayer lists, and Bible reading (all good things!). He applies his convictions to every area of life. The Latin pietas meant honoring your obligations to God, family, and people. For the ancients, piety was a public virtue: looking upward to God, backward to your fathers, and forward to your children. Nehemiah had his workers build with a shovel in one hand and a sword in the other: “Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes” (Neh. 4:14). Chesterton said the true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him. Modern piety has lost that public dimension. It shrinks Christian duty to the interior life and writes off public concerns as worldliness. That’s pietism. The pietist thinks he’s more godly for staying out of politics, but all he’s done is surrender the public square to unbelievers who have no problem writing their own morality into law. Again, piety is good. Pietism is bad. The poison is in the -ism.

Christians are for the death penalty for exactly the same reason we oppose abortion. Innocent life should be protected. There is no contradiction. It’s the exact same value.

The death penalty is one of the most obviously Christian and biblical forms of judicial punishments and is a foundational part of any just & virtuous society. I’m pro-death penalty because I’m pro-life, exactly how God intended for us to be.

20 years ago (2006), I released my first album. The opening track was “September 22nd.” It has been a pleasant surprise to see so many people celebrating this day every year for the past 20 years. It has been one of the highlights of my career. Happy September 22nd!

$4.20 per gallon in South Carolina. It cost me $90 to fill up my tank last night. Insane! Biggest unforced error of this administration.
I still can’t believe we started a war that raised gas prices in a midterm election year. I almost chuckle when I think about the absurdity of that decision. Just put the whole movement in jeopardy. Lol! What a waste.

There is nothing remotely racist or bigoted about wanting the state universities where you live and which you subsidize to be educating for advancement your children and not foreigners. It’s the university of your state, not a branch of the planetary university. Nor should American kids be competing with foreigners for spots in those schools. It doesn’t matter if the foreign kid is smarter, he can be “smarter” where he lives and that’s great. Maybe he can turn his country into a super power one day. We are not a mere globalist economic zone. We are a country, a culture, and a people. And we should behave as such for the benefits thereof.

Just to be clear: It is in fact deeply “conservative” (if that word has any meaning) to *disincentivize* married mothers with children from working outside the home And to *incentivize* the ability for a family to not just survive, but thrive, on a single income earned by the father How we do that can be a debate. But the fact that we as a society should (even must) do that should not be, at least on the Right

The Upstate of SC (with closest connection to Appalachia and the Bible belt) did its job yesterday to break with the President and vote for an actual conservative to be Senator. The lowlands and coast, not so much.
The upstate/rest of the state divide in the #scsenate runoff is wild. I've never seen this clear of a geographic split in a primary before--it's not urban/rural, it's region. Norman is up in 12 counties, he's picked up 2 from Graham since the first primary--both in the upstate

I did my part. I'm confident the upstate will get it right. Praying that the low country will follow suit.
If you want a U.S. senator with the proven fortitude to fight for the SAVE America Act… vote Ralph Norman.
