BREAKING: In a 7-2 vote, the Supreme Court just agreed with us that the Postal Service’s last-minute changes to mail-in voting were a recipe for chaos.
Ballots in North Carolina have already started going out and coming back. The election is underway. It would have been impossible for the Postal Service to implement a whole new system in time for the election - especially since the new system doesn’t even exist yet.
As Justice Kavanaugh put it, “state and local officials do not have sufficient time to reasonably implement the rule before the elections.”
We appreciate the Court recognizing the practical reality of the situation. Voting has begun. You don’t change the rules in the middle of the election.

Arizona, which has the nation’s fourth-largest #solar market, is increasingly pairing its abundant solar resources with #storage to capture more homegrown power, meet rising demand, and help keep electricity costs down.
=> NC should be adding storage to existing solar projects much faster, so we capture👆THOSE BENEFITS like AZ, TX, UT, etc.

“The attorney, Jack Nichols, said that a utilities commission staffer was tasked with reporting Tucker’s trips, and that “they did not know that he made this trip” when compiling the ethics report.”
This is one of the funnier explanations I’ve ever seen for failure to disclose.
A new poll released today shows North Carolinians are concerned with increasing energy costs and data centers. Read the key takeaways below ⬇️ and see the full poll release here: nclcvf.org/news-announcement…
#ncpol #environment #datacenters
3 Key Takeaways:
1. North Carolinians overwhelmingly report utility costs have gone up in the past year (80%).
2. Clean & renewable energy is popular, & support for increasing it is high

Hardworking North Carolinians, leaders like Gov. Stein & AG Jackson, and clean energy advocates can all agree; our legislature and utilities commission need to start putting the people of our state over the profits of Duke Energy. #ncpol #no2ratehikes #ncga #ncgov #ncdoj

Breaking: Duke Energy Carolinas just lowered its proposed residential rate hike from 18% to 11.6%.
That happened after our office objected, along with Public Staff, other intervenors, and many North Carolinians.
It’s a step in the right direction, but it’s still too high.
We’ll keep making our case for lower rates - and for making sure families don’t get stuck paying unfair costs for data centers and other large users.

Too many families are struggling to make ends meet, so we must work to make life more affordable, not less. While Duke Energy Carolinas just reduced its proposed rate increase, it’s still too high. This development proves that when North Carolinians make their voices heard, it makes a difference. Let’s keep advocating for the Utilities Commission to do right by consumers. We need to lower costs for families – because every dollar counts.

On top of a proposed 15% rate hike, Duke Energy is now asking North Carolinians to foot the bill for an additional $800 million in increased fuel costs. I vetoed Senate Bill 266 for exactly this reason: because it would further expose North Carolina ratepayers to volatile fuel markets and shift the cost of electricity from large industrial users onto the backs of regular people, making your utility bills more expensive. Republican legislators knew this too – but still left North Carolinians holding the bag. The Utilities Commission should step in to secure an affordable energy future for North Carolinians. We must do everything we can to make life more affordable for families, not more expensive.
