It’s pretty crazy how the cities-only rent unaffordability problem (NY/SF) exploded to the rest of the country during COVID. We do have a national housing shortage, but this can’t be explained by the fundamentals.

Yep. And let's be clear: Yglesias was a much-listened to voice in Biden WH & Shor was allowed to oversee a $700 million super-PAC campaiging . These jokers got the presidency they wanted and the campaign they wanted. They are trying to scapegoat low-power groups for their own political failure. Nobody should take this ass covering seriously.

even if it was true, then that would mean everyone in the party is either incredibly weak willed or criminally stupid!
You know what? I’m way too lazy to cross post. Gonna take a week to give blue other app sky another chance.
Devastated to hear that Bela Karolyi died, at 82, disgraced. Sad he’s not around to scream at himself for not sticking the landing.

this part is critical: with a few exceptions, NYC's democratic machines are dead. immigrants, transplants & young people with no interest in the old guard's politics have replaced the old base
county parties/clubs are too busy fighting the left to organize for general elections
Understanding Donald Trump means understanding the outer boroughs of New York City. That's the key to who he is and what made him.

Alaskan Politics: Begich III is leading in their Congressional race. His father beat Frank Murkowski in 70 and was re-elected posthumously in 72 after disappearing in a plane crash, beating Don Young, who took the seat and succeeded him and served for 40 years. Murkowski went…
… on to serve 18 years in the US senate, then was elected Governor in 2002 and appointed his daughter Lisa to his Senate seat, which she still holds 22 years later, before losing in 2006 to Sarah Palin.

If you win any election by less than 0.5%, your term should be cut in half.

The drip, drip, drip of votes from California, in addition to being unjust to the state's voters, and adding to the skepticism of our election integrity, also is just bad for Democrats because GOP margins on election night and the days after is inflated!
I don’t watch boxing much, but I’m glad to be doing it on X, the Everything App, presented by “MethStreams.com - Netflix is having issues”
The runty kitten has a purr that is four octaves below middle C and roughly the same volume as a braking subway train. The old man is having none of it, sleeping on the couch in protest.
We’re like two soccer games away from European PMs decrying anti-semitism while being mass-pummeled by israeli hooligans
Exciting but also it is dumb to do this without adding 20 stories of apartments on top of (granted, DC height limits means 3ft ceiling height, but still)

DC Union modernization:
DC Union expansion got 24mil for design work, Utility movement and Geotechnical work. This project will modernize DC Union, increase capacity for trains, reduce dwell times and add more platforms, the rest of the project still needs funding.

I'm going to be honest I don't see the appeal in space. Wanting people to live there feels so reddit. We've already got a perfectly good planet here, why are people soyying about living on military rations on a dome in a shitty wasteland?
