So “Burger in the Dark” was a HUGE success! 😂😂
We constructed the burger, hid it in a random spot in our big church, turned the lights out to pitch black, and sent the kids hunting.
If someone was lucky enough to come upon the burger, they would hurriedly eat it, then keep walking until they found an adult they could discreetly notify. The adult would shout “BURGER BURGER BURGER!!!”, and the lights would come on. Then they would all try to guess who ate it, accusing and denying and discussing until we asked the Burger Eater to step forward. They never guessed the right person! 😂 Whoever won got to wear a big hamburger hat until the next round.
It was so stupid and so stinking funny. The most fitting party for a teenage boy. 🍔🤩
Our son turns thirteen in a couple of weeks, and to celebrate, he wants to congregate with his friends at the church and play “Burger in the Dark”, where an adult will hide a fully constructed burger in one of the many rooms, turn out all the lights, and the guests will try to find and eat the burger in secret before anyone finds them.
On a scale of one to ten, how amazing is this idea. 😂

One of the worst things you can do when involved with a woman is quiet her yapping.
Before you lose your shit in the comments let me clarify.
Your role as a man is to be steady, a provider, a source of center, her rock. When a woman yaps to you about a problem or something she loves and you shut her down, you are severing your connection to her. The safety she felt she had with you disintegrates.
You may feel the problem is trivial, or she won’t follow your advice anyway. Perhaps reflect on why that is. Is it trivial because deep down you actually do not care for her well being? Will she not follow your advice because you have routinely failed to show up for her in a loving way?
You cannot force someone to change. A woman will yap, how do you respond? What feedback loop are you participating in?
If you take a look inward and decide you DO care about her… you DO want her to feel safe, and cherished, and that you are her rock and guiding force… let her yap. Just let her continue whatever the story is and take it in. Ask her if she wants a solution or an ear and then follow through on whichever it is. Show you are present and invested. Start showing up for her in the moments that matter. When you do, I have a sneaking suspicion she will follow your lead more regularly, she will feel heard and will ruminate less. Most of all you will repair the bonds of trust that were broken.

Lillian Smart- 530 Update
Lillian’s PICU Dr. was gracious and came to the waiting room to answer any and all questions. Dr. Tran pulled up a chair and spoke honest answers to the best of his abilities. He has been in constant contact with THE CDC expert in this incredibly rare case. He confirmed it’s a parasitic amoeba that is contracted from warm, fresh, stagnant water. Over the next 48-72 hours we are praying for response from Lillian in any form. She is very sick. He is hopeful, but injury is significant. With the prayer and willingness of our community, he was blown away at how fast the meds were delivered and how fast they are able to administer them. She’s on 8 meds currently to treat symptoms and ultimately kill this bacteria.
We are asking for very specific prayers. Lillian needs the drugs to take action. She needs little to no neurological damage and any damage done to be reversed. Lillian needs a miracle. These next 2-3 days are critical. Cover her with your prayers. Cover Rebecca and Daniel as their world is completely upside down. Cover their baby boys. Lift this family to the Highest. Plead for mercy and miracles.
