Folks should really lay this at the feet of AG candidate @JonEchols. While a legislator and Turnkey exec, he got them in every large jail in the state, while they commit atrocities. Shifting this onto the county taxpayers avoids holding the truly powerful accountable!
Today Cleveland County Commissioners will consider a $20 million settlement to the estate of Shannon Hanchett. She ran a cottage-style bakery in Norman and had the nickname “Cookie Queen.” Only $2 million is covered by insurance and if approved, the rest will likely be paid through increased property tax installments. The officer who arrested her in a cellphone store in 2022 said she appeared to be having a mental health episode. An amended complaint references unreleased closed circuit video of the 12 days in jail before her death, including several days in a holding cell without a mattress, toilet or sink.
