Week 4 - One month in and United Utilities is still dumping sewage into Windermere. We recently showed evidence of illegality in the catchment savewindermere.com/news/ille… Why does illegality in the Windermere catchment matter? Well, the bill payer has already paid for water companies to build, operate, and maintain sewage systems capable of ‘effectually dealing’ with the content of those sewers. As such, the bill payer cannot pay twice for a service that has not been provided. We have evidence of illegality at 3 out of 4 sites in which United Utilities is set to invest in reducing spilling. This illegality is reflective of a lack of capacity. Therefore, getting these sites up to capacity cannot fall into the next investment cycle. In other words, you should not be paying for it. So, how much of this investment is just so United Utilities can perform their statutory duty? Whatever the figure, they cannot include it, and @OFWAT cannot allow it.
