CELEBRATING THE WINNERS OF THE UGANDA CLIMATE INNOVATION CHALLENGE (UCIC) 2026! The future of Uganda’s green economy is being shaped by bold ideas, innovative thinking, and young people who are turning environmental challenges into practical solutions. Following a competitive final evaluation at the UCIC 2026 Final Pitch Event, six outstanding innovators emerged as winners, earning recognition and cash prizes for their creativity, commitment and contribution to climate action. We are proud to congratulate: 1st Place – Karenzcreations (Karen Point Collection) Transforming discarded motorcycle tyres into beautiful, functional wall mirrors with integrated wireless speakers, Karenzcreations demonstrates how creativity and upcycling can give waste a new purpose while creating opportunities within the circular economy. 2nd Place – Luther Plastics Based in Wakiso, Luther Plastics is turning discarded plastic into durable furniture. With 850 kg of plastic processed, 61 furniture units sold, and six young people employed at its Kawanda workshop, the enterprise is demonstrating how plastic waste can become a source of value, innovation, and green employment. 3rd Place – Smart Kuku Brooder (Beon Robotics (U) Ltd) Through automation and smart technology, Smart Kuku Brooder helps poultry farmers monitor and regulate brooding temperatures, receive alerts, and reduce reliance on charcoal. With solar and battery backup, the innovation supports more efficient and climate-conscious poultry farming. 4th Place – ABI Plastic Collectors & Recyclers Ltd By collecting, sorting, and processing used plastic bottles into PET flakes for recycling and refining manufacturers, ABI Plastic Collectors & Recyclers Ltd is strengthening the plastic recovery value chain and supporting the transition towards a more circular economy. 5th Place – Green Shero Ltd Operating in Fort Portal, Green Shero transforms plastic and biodegradable waste into recycled materials and Ekirisa Organic Manure. Since 2021, the enterprise has recovered over 7,890 tonnes of plastic, produced more than 2,365 tonnes of organic manure, supported over 200 farmers and created more than 458 green livelihood opportunities. 6th Place – Munansi Green Initiative Championing nature-based solutions, Munansi Green Initiative promotes wild bee conservation, beekeeping, agroforestry and climate-smart agriculture. Working with farmers, women and young people, the initiative also supports value addition to bee products, including honey, beeswax and propolis. Beyond the awards, these achievements represent the possibilities that emerge when young innovators are given the opportunity, support and platforms to develop their ideas into impactful enterprises. Through the Uganda Climate Innovation Challenge, we are celebrating homegrown solutions that address environmental challenges while creating green jobs, strengthening livelihoods, promoting resource efficiency and contributing to sustainable development. To all six winners, congratulations on this remarkable achievement! Your innovations are a testament to the ingenuity, determination and entrepreneurial spirit of Uganda’s young people. We also recognise every finalist and innovator who participated in this journey. Every idea presented reflects an important contribution to building a more sustainable and climate-resilient future. The challenge may have crowned its winners, but the journey of innovation and impact continues. @GlobalFundWomen #UCIC2026 #UgandaClimateInnovationChallenge

Yesterday, We celebrated Uganda's boldest youth-led green economy innovations at the Uganda Climate Innovation Challenge (UCIC) 2026! For our young people, climate action and youth employment are not two separate conversations, they are the exact same conversation. A massive congratulations to our 6 winners who shared a 37 million UGX grant pool, and to all 12 incredible finalists across Circular Economy, Clean Energy Innovation, Circular Regenerative Agriculture, and Climate Art and Storytelling. We also proudly witnessed the official launch of the National Waste Pickers Association. You have been doing critical circular economy work long before the rest of us learned the term, and your efforts keep our cities clean. You deserve occupational health and safety, full recognition, and a rightful seat at the table with Government, KCCA, NEMA, and recyclers. Achieving Uganda's Tenfold Growth Strategy target and lowering youth unemployment means actively backing our young innovators and frontline workers. To our banks and development partners, please design financial products that fit them without demanding land titles, and to the private sector, let your company be their first big customer. Our youth aren't just waiting for the jobs of tomorrow, they are creating them today!

Strengthening food security through evidence-based action. 🌍 Today, the @OPMUganda, UN agencies, relevant line ministries, members of the Diplomatic Corps and Civil Society Organisations convened for the dissemination of the 2026 Uganda Food Security and Nutrition Assessment Reports. The reports highlight districts classified under #IPC Phase 3 Crisis and Phase 4 Emergency, providing critical evidence to inform targeted interventions, strengthen coordination and guide timely responses to food insecurity and malnutrition. We recognise that food insecurity disproportionately affects vulnerable children, adolescent girls and families. Through strong partnerships and evidence-driven action, we can strengthen community resilience and help ensure that every child has the opportunity to survive, recover and thrive. #FoodSecurity #Nutrition #HumanitarianResponse #Uganda #PlanInternationalUganda

I was delighted to preside over the closing ceremony of the 2nd Schools’ Electric Cooking Competition at #REC2026, where I presented awards to outstanding students and schools following three days of exciting competition showcasing creativity, teamwork and innovation in modern cooking. Congratulations to all the winners and participants for demonstrating how young people can be powerful drivers of Uganda’s clean cooking transition. I commend the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development and the National Renewable Energy Platform (NREP), with support from the UK Government through the Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) programme, for championing this remarkable initiative. By using electric pressure cookers to prepare familiar family meals efficiently and sustainably, our students demonstrated the potential of innovation in advancing clean cooking. I call upon schools, parents and partners to sustain this momentum by nurturing young innovators, promoting practical learning and empowering students to champion clean cooking in their communities. #CleanCooking #YouthEmpowerment #REC2026
