Few people could help us understand such current design problems with as much respect for historical & human context as @Mappletons. In addition to being generally great, I also appreciated that I ended with more questions than I began, which accurately reflects how early we are.
New talk! About the divided human & agent worlds, boundary objects, and building thicker interfaces I've been exploring how to improve "planning", aka. deciding what agents should build, how you want it built, & making the whole team part of that process maggieappleton.com/planning-…

We used to buy things made one at a time. Mass production made products cheaper and more accessible, but largely identical. What if the future takes us back to a world where everything is one-of-one? Autumn Moon is a limited drop in collaboration with @kelin_online & @angelaloh09 built on that idea. Shape your lamp at joshpuckett.me/autumn-moon

Once airports are deleted they can never be rebuilt—there is simply no place to build new urban airports. It would be so tragic for Santa Monica to lose its airport.

This aligns with my experience. 2026 is one of the most exciting times in my entire career. I feel more empowered than ever before. Things that used to be slow, difficult, or impossible are now almost effortless. If you can articulate your ideas clearly, they can probably exist.
one thing i noticed after a month of calls with designers is a weird generation gap between people who are scared of ai and people who are excited about it you would expect younger designers to be more into ai, but it’s often the opposite. the most excited people i meet have been in design for 12+ years designers with about 5 years of experience came into a world that was stable: big design teams, enterprise jobs, high salaries, and a slow process of design systems and jira tasks. ai is a huge risk if you define design work around components. it’s pure production, it needs to be automated, and it was an anomaly from the start people who started 12+ years ago saw a design world without any of that. small freelance gigs, low pay, and no way to do 3d or animation on your own. but they had a lot of ideas, and that’s why they came. they worked in photoshop cs3 and indesign and downloaded brushes from the internet now design is going back to what it should be. not a huge layer of production, but meaning, purpose and form

idk who needs to hear this but it’s ok to not put ‘engineer’ after every job title
Excited to announce the inaugural class of @a16z Ops Engineer fellows! ~50 ops engineering leaders selected out of thousands of apps from talented people around the world. They sit at the intersection of operations and engineering, scaling operational rigor within and across teams.. they are building the internal tools that consolidate the tooling stack, designing the data and context layers that agents draw on, deploying agentic workflows with human checkpoints, and driving adoption inside their companies. We have folks like Ben Booi (@BenjaminBooi) and Rushaabh Saliya at Opendoor, Chris Jones (@chrisojones) at Shopify, Dilan Shah (@dilan_shah) from Cresta, Kevin Chu (@realKevinChu) from ElevenLabs, Saya Iwasaki (@iiiwokk) at Notion, Jordan Shapiro at Handshake, Christina Huang at Cognition, and Keith Gliksman (@KeithGliksman) at Tennr, Others are are world-class COOs and chiefs of staff redefining how AI gets used across organizations. They’re deciding which workflows to automate first, the KPIs that prove it’s working, and are leading the teams that put it to work. Folks like Caroline Ingeborn (@caroingeborn) at Luma AI, Brandon Gell (@bran_don_gell) at Every, Rohan Shah (@RohanxShah) at Datavant, Gabriella Garcia (@reallygabriella) at Warp, Matt Stehle at Formation Bio, and Meera Shah at Glean. Others are taking how software gets built to the next level, creating new products and leading the teams that ship them, like Claire Vo (@clairevo) at ChatPRD, Seb Goddijn (@sebgoddijn) at Yaklabs, TK Kong (@tkkong) at Concept, Matt Portnov (@MattnPortnov) at Decagon, Owen Williams (@ow) and Sharadh Krishnamurthy at Stripe, Andrew Qu (@andrewqu) at Vercel, and Maxwell Nardi (@maxwellnardi) at Runlayer, @davidgan at SpaceX/@bot, @matthew_busel at Basis. And another ~25 awesome folks we can't squeeze into one post !! (see full list in comments) Missed out on this but want to stay in the loop for future cohorts? sign-up at build.a16z.com/fellowships/o…

after six and nine years respectively, me and @narrowd left L̶e̶d̶ ̶Z̶e̶p̶p̶e̶l̶i̶n̶ stripe a couple of months ago. what we did at stripe/press over the years was a big deal for us, and i don't want to diminish it by making jokes or reducing a tough decision to "we made the difficult decision to leave". maybe we’ll write a book. i will miss some of our enemies and all of our friends. art directing books and designing websites for @stripepress was an honor. we will miss the chaos of it all 🫡

I hit my 1 year at @braintrust and it's pretty crazy to look back at everything we've done. Hands down the best team I've had the privilege of being a part of. I'm a little biased but everyone should definitely come work here.

Everyone’s seen the Sketchpad demo. Few understand how it actually works. I reimplemented Sketchpad from scratch, and I’m making short videos that recreate Sutherland’s demos and explain how they work. The first 8 are up — from drawing a line to the famous rivet. Link below 👇

I am running the NYC Marathon again on Nov 1! Last year taught me about the value of big goals and the visceral lesson that we are capable of much more than we think. This year I am running for the incredible @BloodCancerUtd. Any support would mean the world to me. My team, Team in Training, has raised 96% of the goal of $1.5M. 1.8M+ people are living with or in remission from blood cancer, and leukemia is the most common childhood cancer. Blood Cancer United (formerly the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) invests in high-risk, high-reward research opportunities that may struggle to secure support elsewhere. You can support here. Thank you! pages.lls.org/tnt/team/nyc26…

The longer I look at it the more I believe this is one of the most beautiful cars that came out in recent years. And I never really cared much about new Porsches, I like the old ones. But this one, 👌🏼
What car is this ? Looks like its on a mission 🥶
