be present like this moment is an eternity
i asked my therapist: why is she here? I expected it to be something like: life is a whirlwind, preferences and interests change, also insert here [a bunch of wholesome motivations], but down the line, the thing that really consistently keeps me here is 🪙 i earn my living this way
but what she said, or how i understood her motivation was more like—well, i became a therapist bc [some wholesome reasons] and i [studied psychology, did a bunch of training etc.] and now this is my career—i don't think about why i am here every day, i am here because it's my occupation, a role in life, my repeating pattern
and weirdly, that made me feel more cozy in our relationship. She just will be there for me, even when I am a human plateau, when I am unenergetic or boring—or said differently when oriented around something that is fire but not yet obviously internally-or-externally-apparent as such
my mind constantly tries to bootstrap itself from the body, my practice is to keep reminding it that it doesn’t work
anytime i complain, @yoltartar's response is to massage me
headache? massage
feeling bored? massage
leg is itchy? massage
don't feel like having sex? massage
and... it works!

Two types of suffering games?

How to remove underlying suffering? Ur locally optimal frame says that some time ago, probably in childhood, you employed a strategy that might have been helpful back then, but is largely dysfunctional rn. When you identify this strategy and understand its mechanism, it will get untangled just by you realizing it. It may work in some percentage of cases, but my hypothesis is that there are quite a lot of cases where it won’t work because the foundation is different. These cases are about self-harm. I wonder how you think about it? Could it be a missing piece of your puzzle? How would you approach untangling self-harm? And by self-harm I mean anything from people harming themselves physically to subtle strategies of psychological self-undermining.

Confused ELI5 rumbling-to-understand: I like your answer but part of my mind still sees addiction as something something pleasure particles.
Whenever a friend says something like “[problematic pattern] it comes down to my brain chemistry”, implying that this is hard to alter, that they are just within this mechanism that is doing things, I clearly see a bigger them, that believing that is in itself the limiting view.
And yet here part of me is saying that Vacha’s expansion is interesting, but addiction comes down to brain chemistry—something something pleasure particles. I am doing pleasurable things, like checking social media, bc some videos show novel, surprising, rare combinations of reality, when that happens my mechanistic brain inject pleasure particles, similarly to when food is in the stomach acid is injected. So covering things we cannot yet accept (impermanence, no-self, unsatisfactoriness) may contribute some, but the other, perhaps larger bit, is my brain will be seeking injections of pleasure particles.
i had this beautiful massage yesterday, and i feel inspired with beauty, like the masseuse’s hands have been touching on what is my energy mesh, whirlpools, eddies, fuck-ups, beautifulness, spites, and they were happy to be seen in whatever they were at the moment.

in most cases, with her caring touch, they were like, that feels nice, we want a greater harmony, we are the mesh that is unharmonized rn and we want to exude harmony. and it is not only about the body, it extends to relating with different sensory, imaginative inputs over time. the energy saw itself and felt the need to harmonize, be beautiful, attuned response
