Who Are You vs. What Can You Do?
Security systems constantly check two things when you try to access something:
Authentication (Who are you?): Prove it's actually you. This is your username, password, or fingerprint scanner.
Authorization (What are you allowed to do?): Once you're inside, what do you have permission to touch? For example, a regular employee can view their own paycheck, but they aren't authorized to view the CEO's paycheck.
