PHP shipped fixes today for two critical vulnerabilities (“PHP2Shell”). If your site, blog, or store runs on PHP and you need a second set of eyes, we can help.

This week I spoke with @robbyrussell on the Tech for Humans podcast. You might know Robby as the creator of @ohmyzsh , or through @planetargon and his podcasts (or through his sticker empire). In fact, Robby is one of the best known voices in the Ruby community. Hot off his keynote from Rails World a few weeks ago, Robby talks about his process to write that keynote. We also talked about running an agency, supporting open source, helping junior developers learn, and what music has to do with all of this. Plenty here for developers and the people leading them! Some of the @PlanetArgon team got a chance to have a post-Rails World retro in Austin. Good vibes... and what a nice-looking bunch of humans.

In this day one closing keynote from #RailsWorld 2026, @robbyrussell (@planetargon) talks about the "local workshop" every mature Rails app builds on top of the framework: the patterns, shortcuts, workarounds and oral traditions that teams quietly learn to compensate for, and that AI coding agents are now tripping over. Drawing on years of experience, Robby agrees that while producing code has gotten cheaper, deciding what belongs, what can be trusted and what should change still takes human judgment. We’re just a few days away from Rails World in Austin. Looking forward to catching up with old friends, meeting some new ones, and revisiting Austin. It’s been a few years. I’ll be giving my keynote, “The Most Valuable Engineer Isn’t Shipping Features,” on Tuesday afternoon. I’ve been tinkering with this one for a while… looking forward to finally sharing it. Keep an eye out for a number of my fellow @planetargon teammates, too. We’ll be wandering around and would love to talk shop… @rails, legacy apps, modernization, AI, or whatever you’re curious about these days. Come find us. Let’s unpack a few things together. 🤠

Packing for Rails World… More than two months ago, I started writing my keynote by disappearing into the forest near the Oregon coast for a few days. Just me, stacks of notecards, yellow notepads, a lot of trees… and some runs on the beach to let the ideas wander. I’ve been wondering, unpacking, and tinkering with those ideas since... and am looking forward to finally sharing some of what I’ve been thinking about with everyone in Austin this week. Also, tacos. I've been thinking a lot about tacos.

In this week's episode of On Rails, @robbyrussell talks with Eddie Galindo (Engineering Lead) and Kagen Hearn (Senior Software Engineer) from Ascend, a platform helping insurance agencies automate the movement and reconciliation of money. They dig into how a 5-year-old Rails app has scaled from a single co-founder's bootstrap project into a platform now processing millions of statement entries and billions of background jobs, all while staying on a shared Rails monolith. We asked the Ruby on Rails community about their favorite Rails-related technical podcasts. Remote Ruby takes the top spot, but we found a familiar voice at #2 and #4. :) Full survey results coming soon!

24 years ago this week, @PlanetArgon got started. This photo was taken around that time. You don’t have to know how something is going to pan out before you start. Sometimes you just start… and see where it takes you.
