Picasso’s reply when asked for his thoughts on computers in 1964 is more relevant than ever:

Another DeepSeek moment. This is the world’s first actual smart phone. It’s an engineering prototype of ZTE’s Nubia M153 running ByteDance’s Doubao AI agent fused into Android at the OS level. It has complete control over the phone. It can see the UI, choose/download apps, tap/type, call, and run multi-step task chains. Here I just say (in English) “find someone to wait in line for me” (something you can do in China), and it picks which app to open, configures the job, and hands me one confirm screen. I wouldn’t otherwise know how to do this, and here the phone just did it in a matter of seconds.

I found a lot more peace as a parent when I realized that some tantrums are truly unavoidable because the cause of your child’s distress is resistance to facts about how physical reality works, like you can’t be in two places at once. A child’s mind might assume it’s possible to have your cake and eat it too, and when confronted with the fact that that’s not how physical reality works, the child has to go through a grieving process that shows up as a tantrum. In those moments, your role as a parent is simply to be there for them and help them through the grieving process as best as you can, and try to choose the best tradeoffs you can on their behalf. Your continued loving presence is the important thing, even if they perceive you as the cause of their distress. It’s really hard sometimes, and sometimes you need to do some self-parenting first before you can really show up for your kid. You might have your own grieving process to work through about the fact that you can’t seem to find a way to resolve their tantrum even though you are trying really hard. There’s a painful sense of loss in those moments. A question that helps me sometimes when I feel lost is “what will my kid’s future adult self wish I had done in this moment?” And if the only answer I can come up with is “I don’t know” then I give myself some grace and try to have faith that things will work out over time as long as I keep showing up.

so here's a challenge I put you in a time chamber I give you 10,000 books to read for every word you read, I ask you to guess the next word if you guess it right, I give you a cake if you guess it wrong, I zap your butt and when you're done, we start over again and again and again every time you say any word that isn't in the books - I severely punish you. if you ever have a novel idea that isn't in the books - I punish you. if you ever propose a creative solution to a problem, but that solution isn't in the book... I punish you. in short, if you detour in any way or form from what's in the book, even if you're correct - I hurt you badly and we keep doing that again, and again, and again a century passes, and I finally set you free you leave the chamber, having memorized everything in the books and traumatized of anything not in the books I approach you give you a hug and whisper to you ear: "tell me something not in the books"
chatgpt, claude, gemini, grok, etc have all read, comprehended, and nearly memorized every book in the world, and yet with current architectures and training techniques none of them have any truly novel knowledge to give us. really makes you think

Researchers created a new color “olo” by using lasers to hit M-cones without activating L-cones to show a turquoise-like color that has never been perceived. Here’s a browser demo to try and simulate this effect by using “cone fatigue”: olonewcolor.com

As you know, my explorations of the Gen AI space is ultimately all about creative control. You should be able to shape the generative matter using all your artistic sensibilities and your aesthetic sense. OpenAI's Sora is a huge technological leap, but what excites me the most about it is the modalities where it depends on input other than text alone. Such as video to video. Here's an example of how Sora can change an input video. Base video🧵

I’m from the future. Stop these two immediately. Their cuteness creates a cute singularity and the resulting chaos starts the cute wars. Many are cuteninged. We’ve been sent back in time to stop this cute. I’m begging you. Before it is too late. xitter.cf/superamit/status/17459…
