Had an inspiring meeting today that left me thinking all day... The Carney government has a significant blind spot. Canada’s charitable and nonprofit sector is enormous. It contributes more than $216 billion in economic activity, equivalent to about 8% of GDP, and employs roughly one in ten Canadian workers. It operates in virtually every community in the country. Yet when Ottawa talks about nation-building, the sector is almost entirely absent from the conversation. You can't build a stronger country with steel, concrete, foreign investment, and faster procurement alone. You also need people to feel connected to the project, to feel that they have a role in it, and to believe that building a stronger Canada means something in their own community and their own life. The PM alluded to the agency Canadians have in his speech two Saturdays ago, but didn't mention this part of society that's proven to be essential in the past.
