Ciara Mageean died this morning. A light has gone out in the world. Authentic, talented, decent. Her kindness and wonderful personality was a joy to watch and see. Then came her iconic sporting achievements.
When we sat down with Ciara for the GAA Social in July, she received disappointing news the day before. Ciara didn’t want to cancel, so we recorded on the Tuesday. It’s 90 minutes Oisin & myself will always treasure. She was the best of us.
To Thomas, I’m so sorry. She was mad about you. To the Mageean family, all her great friends and the Portaferry community- what a stunning human being, to call one of your own. This is so unfair.
I’ve never met a person who met Ciara, who didn’t love her. A one off.

Could one resignation bring down Stormont?
If the First Minister or deputy First Minister resigns:
👉Both lose office
👉Other ministers can remain as caretakers
👉The Assembly can continue
👉Fresh elections aren’t automatic
No joint engagements. No resignation. Not yet.
Today’s DUP announcement raises a bigger question: what would actually happen if the deputy First Minister walked away?
We explain the rules governing Stormont’s future. 👇

Is there anything to be said for letting the wreckers and fringe bucketmouths work away and just howl at the moon (or a road) on their own?

It is deeply frustrating that the NI executive will not be represented at the important meeting on economic growth with the PM tomorrow. I understand feelings are running high but it must be in the interests of the people of Northern Ireland that everyone gets round the table.

If our executive collapses it may well signal the complete collapse of our NHS.

The Government have recommended yet another sub-inflationary pay rise for an already beleaguered medical profession. Cutting pay is not the way to tell a workforce you value them.

Hospital doctors’ dispute is over pay erosion, not late pay uplifts. Pay erosion has seen pay drop from between 16% - 26% over the past 18 years (depending on what grade / band you’re on) due to below inflation pay awards.

Strong pitch here to the enormous constituency of 'unionists who think you shouldn't talk to the police'.
