@beh_zod said he's coming so @mcblloo and i are now legally obligated to make nov 17 the best 🫡
seattle, see you there @pprodigyyy
lots of media this week floating around about how to survive as a builder in the age of AI: speed, hunger, agency, and interdisciplinary thinking
The coding interview is dead, at least for my team at Anthropic. I've seen enough to know that it no longer provides signal. I removed it from loops this month.
I have a spicy, optimistic take - I think there's an opportunity for junior engineers: felixrieseberg.com/hunger-be…

titles are blurring. the best in tech design, code, ship, and sell.

on the hunt for speakers with a strong thesis on what’s worth building nowadays

"isn't seattle tech just a bunch of AWS and MSFT employees?"
well, no. aside from having 25% of the AI engineers in the US, and the second largest pool of dev talent in the country, seattle is home to the engineering hq2's of the world's most important tech leaders.
we counted 55 seattle-based c suite execs from @AnthropicAI and @OpenAI to @nvidia and @Cisco ; from @PaloAltoNtwks to @CrowdStrike; from @Shopify to @stripe .
see the latest from @Natebek below.

one of the most important skills you can develop is rallying people around a shared mission
it takes both the ability to tell a compelling story and the conviction to believe in that mission yourself

The title has a long history, but here’s how we decided to bring it to OpenAI:

When starting OpenAI, we thought hard about what job titles to use—didn't want to bucket people into researchers & engineers. Alan Kay advised that they used "Member of Technical Staff" at Xerox Parc, we loved & adopted it. Recently have seen many companies doing same—very cool!

AI is dramatically reshaping the jobs market.
@realleolu and I spoke to 25 tech companies - from 50-person startups to 1,000+ enterprises - and identified 3 megatrends:
1. Product, design, and engineering will merge into one R&D product builder
The legacy org structure for digital product teams is built around specialization. AI tools upend this logic, collapsing the time and skill requirements of executing in any one domain:
AI generates the wireframes a designer used to draw, writes the production-grade code an engineer used to ship, and runs the usability tests a PM used to commission.
The human R&D role shifts to framing the problem, articulating goals, and refining outputs. One “product builder” works across the stack, LinkedIn just launched a program hiring AI-savvy product builders to do exactly this.
Our portfolio companies @playerzero_ai, @OpenStudioHQ, and @Kombaico are building the platforms that support this emerging role.
2. Sales, marketing, and customer success (CS) will merge into one GTM role
Sales, marketing, and customer success used to be 3 separate teams - marketing generated the leads, sales closed them, CS handled retention.
Now AI runs the campaigns marketing used to plan, qualifies the leads sales used to chase, and triggers the upsell CS used to manage.
Instead of 3 teams endlessly passing the baton, one GTM team can run the full lifecycle.
Our companies @heyjasperai, @regieai, @getdocketai, and @arcade_demo are building toward this.
3. Finance, HR, and Legal will merge into one G&A role
Ops today is fragmented across four teams, all coordinating with each other to get anything done.
Now reasoning agents can forecast budgets, assess contract risk, and plan resourcing. Action agents run payroll, process invoices, draft contracts, and provision IT.
One ops team can now oversee financial, people, and GTM support - because AI can handle the execution, reporting, and compliance underneath.
@tonkean, @Meet_campfire, and @maximor_ai are already helping operators do more in this space.
What's left for humans is the part AI can't do: judgment, taste, accountability.
The roles that persist will be more senior, more accountable, and span more of the business than anyone in their job used to.
we need to be using ai to free up space and time to think

Many founders wish they had true peers & thought partners in comms & people leadership roles.
If you’re gifted with words & people, these roles are opportunities to have meaningful impact at top companies and they’re less competitive than being a top founder/investor/creator.

ive talked to many teams in the past few months who are thinking about this but dont know quite what to call it/have called it everything from brand marketing to comms to storytelling to special projects to content/social
4 high-profile startups in past ~2 weeks have explicitly told me they are stealthily looking to hire for someone in this sort of role
these roles are quietly and quickly exploding if your ear is to the ground!!

my prediction for tech: after companies have hired storytellers, the next in-demand role will be community builders.
a compelling story is nothing without an active fan base.
