Working class is more than being dependent on wages. It’s not a mere category. It exists only when people who share that wage dependency develop common identity, tradition, sense of agency, & recognise that their common interests are in opposition to those who live off assets✊

" please bro, look at the small number, please please please bro" "Stack 'em high, sell 'em cheap" was literally coined by Tesco's founder. It helps nobody to pretend like supermarkets aren't making money hand-over-fist right now.
Btw Tesco's profit margin is 2.53pc Imagine turning over 50k in sales and at the end of the year you're left with £1,265 (which is then taxed)

Yes indeed, explained in a nutshell - hiking up interest rates can't cure supply-side inflation and can make it worse. So why raise interest rates? To protect the value of the hoarders' and lenders' money and debt repayments while workers, businesses and borrowers suffer.
The Bank of England has raised interest rates to 4%, supposedly to tackle inflation. There is just one problem with this decision. The Bank knows that much of the inflation we are suffering is being driven by rising oil and energy prices, largely resulting from conflict in the Middle East. It also knows that raising interest rates cannot reduce those prices. So why is it doing this? The answer is that the Bank believes it must suppress demand elsewhere in the economy to compensate for rising energy costs. In other words, it is deliberately making mortgages more expensive, increasing business borrowing costs, discouraging investment and reducing household spending power. And all this when people are already struggling with higher energy bills. That is problem number one. There is, however, another problem. Higher interest rates increase costs for businesses, which can then feed through into higher prices. They can, in that case, add to inflation rather than reduce it. The Bank is imposing economic pain to address a problem its chosen policy cannot directly solve. That is not sound economic management. It is the consequence of an economic dogma that refuses to recognise the difference between inflation caused by excessive demand and inflation caused by supply shocks. When will we learn?

"Taj, do you agree with that, that there's not much Andy Burnham can do to influence Donald Trump?" "We are using actually British infrastructure.. to facilitate US strikes on Iran" Well done @Taj_Ali1 for making this point on #PoliticsLive

Oh the inconvenience of living in a society that values people’s safety above maxing your profit margin by getting Dave down the pub to do a cheap cash in hand quick fix, that's why Dave's in the pub & not on site cos he isn't Gas Safe
Does anyone in Government realise how damaging the weight of regulation is for our economy? I’m waiting for a certificate from our plumber, but he can’t provide it without going on a course & that means taking days off paid work, and paying for the course. Local young farmers 🧵

Interesting irony to note, cost of this govt red tape is actually a private for profit certification body. @KirstieMAllsopp is aiming her fire at the state but the reality is that it’s private for profit certification providers that are squeezing her bottom line.

I mean you quite literally can. Grenfell is the direct result of regulatory enforcement failure several layers deep partly as a result of an agenda of "cutting red tape".
You cannot legislate away the horror of Grenfell.

It's shocking to see 'low-wage care workers' portrayed as a drain on the welfare state. They're doing essential jobs and the only reason they claim benefits is that the fat cat private equity bosses that own care homes don't pay them enough to live on.

A petition to launch a public inquiry into the UK's role in the Gaza genocide has now reached over 60,000 signatures. If it surpasses 100,000, it must be considered for a debate in parliament. 👉petition.parliament.uk/petit…

Private equity is a remarkable innovation. You buy a functioning company, load it with debt, sell its assets, fire half the staff, collect millions in fees, and when it collapses, explain how creative destruction makes capitalism so fucking efficient.

There is something that people complain about That Banks see them paying a higher rent but WONT give them a mortgage that is less This is because the Banks make MORE money from Landlords, their mortgages have higher rates AND require them to buy Insurance in case they can't pay

The First victim in war is always The Truth!
JUST IN: 🇮🇱 🇮🇷 The head of Mossad just admitted that Israel was behind the protests in Iran. Told you so. Mossad was literally posting online during the protests that they were in the field. The U.S. also admitted that the currency collapse that preceded the protests was intentionally done by them. Almost everything mainstream media and politicians tell you about Iran is a lie.

Landlords who needs them? Nobody. Without them housing would still exist, there would be loads of money to build more, houses would be cheaper. And we wouldn't have to listen to disgusting parasites pretending to be both saints and victims when they are neither.

Yep which is also why any regs/tax changes need to be accompanied with rent controls, a very simple to the 'secondary effects' and if landlords want to sell up council should get first dibs with a healthy discount
Landlord bellyaching can be reduced down to: "You made me do my job, I'm putting the rent up" Or when using property management intermediaries: "You made the company I pay to do my job for me do my job, I'm putting the rent up"

What dragged the US off the bottom in the 1930s and prepared the way for the energy shift and the new economy? The operative words here are in ChatGPT's fourth box. PUBLIC INVESTMENT. You know, what the 'bond market' says we can't have.
I gave Claude (left) and ChatGPT (right) exactly the same prompt. Here's the visual each one generated to summarize Galbraith's terrific essay. ineteconomics.org/perspectiv…
