Abdullah Khan was reportedly insulted and assaulted at a gas station in Pitt Meadows—simply for having a “Free Palestine” sticker on his car.
“Go back home,” his attacker said, before assaulting him.
But Canada is his home—just as it is for everyone who lives here. And he has every right to express his views peacefully, like any other Canadian.
What's clear is that there continues to be an ongoing pattern of Islamophobic hate and anti-Palestinian racism that demands urgent attention and accountability.

Yesterday, @JustinTrudeau declared he's a Zionist. For those of us puzzled by Canada’s silence on Gaza’s genocide, this is no surprise.
Zionism, like Canadian settler-colonialism, is rooted in displacement and oppression. As a PM who claims to recognize colonial crimes here, we expect him to see the same beyond our borders.

It’s deeply disappointing that @MacLeodLisa has chosen to interfere in Nepean’s nomination process by spreading defamatory, hateful, and Islamophobic rhetoric against me. This is unacceptable.
I am a proud father, conservative, Muslim and former reservist who has always sought to contribute to our beautiful country.
I will not be intimidated or allow anyone to undermine my reputation and integrity.
My lawyer has issued a formal Libel Notice to Lisa MacLeod, demanding she cease and desist her attack on me. Furthermore, I expect a public apology from her.
Lisa’s interference has no place in this nomination. It’s time for her to step back and let the people of Nepean decide who their candidate should be.
I want to thank my family, friends, military peers, and elected officials who have stood by me and called out this hateful attack for what it is.

Does it make a difference if the "terrorists" are not labeled "Islamic"? Beyond the rampant racism of this tweet (for which a political leader should be held accountable more than average citizens), one could read this, mutatis mutandis, the making of a case for Palestine and the Palestinian people, who have been for decades "under attack", "facing an existential threat", "slaughtered and raped", "taken hostage", as well as tormented, punished, persecuted, maimed, killed by Israeli soldiers and/or armed settlers.
We should expect seriousness and composure from political leaders, and ability to confront truths and acknowledge the suffering that’s often overlooked.

This is an important and proper stand by the government of @JustinTrudeau and @melaniejoly.
The ICC needs to issue warrants for thousands of Israeli war criminals.
Here is Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly speaking to the need for Canada to abide by the International Criminal Court's decision to issue arrest warrants for Israeli PM Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Gallant.
Canada is a founding signatory of the ICC. Canada must uphold international law at all times.
Netanyahu and Gallant could be arrested if they ever step into Canada.
After much advocacy on this front by many community members and groups, this step by Canada is a good one in the right direction.
We have much more to do, but this is an important moment.
