The Hope of the Polka Dots Buried in Infinity Will Eternally Cover the Universe.

Hybrid filmmaking is here - love to see it!
We shot this with real actors.
Then AI helped us build the world around them.
This is a before/after VFX breakdown from KIRO – Learning to Stay, our #FutureVisionXPRIZE submission.
Using tools like Seedance, a small filmmaking team can now create shots that would have required a completely different budget just a few years ago.
AI didn’t replace our crew.
It expanded what our crew could create. 🎬🤖

AI filmmakers are one of the MOST in-demand people in the creative industry right now. This is the dilemma right now.
There are NOT enough AI filmmakers, partly because being really good at editing, cinematography, AND actual AI skills is a LOT to master. The very best AI filmmakers are very rare.
There are 6 entities that are hunting for them, causing a squeeze in the job market:
> Big studios - want to hire AI filmmakers for experimental and research projects
> AI studios - they’re experiencing demand for their own projects and clients and need AI filmmakers to train and work on those projects
> AI tool companies - want to hire AI creative directors and filmmakers to showcase their tools
> AI streamers - who want to fill up their catalog with AI content
> Ad Agencies - nobody cares if an ad is made with AI. Agencies are training up their own people to do AI to cost save on ads and…
> Brands - are demanding quicker, cheaper, and more variety and since it’s so easy, they’re also hiring to tinker and even shorten feedback timelines
While one side of the creative industry is losing jobs, demand in this industry is exploding and not abating. AI skills are very easy to learn but VERY hard to master.

A new method of filmmaking just arrived. Earlier than anyone expected. It combines performance capture and virtual production at scale, and it's being tested right now for the first time in the industry. We call it Hybrid Production. This is what the future looks like. For the Runway Big Ad Contest I wanted to create something simple, that brings back some memories of the early 2000s commercials. I chose Japan as the location, maybe because the story fit perfectly the museum islands: Teshima and Naoshima, wooden houses, amazing mountains and magical tiny islands. Also the location enabled to use all the cliches, including the battery mascots at the end.
This story could work better in a long form 90 or 120 second length, but rules are rules!
Look wise I was going for a very grainy 16mm look - like if it was shot 1-2 stops under - , grabbed the settings that I’ve tested during my AI to film transfer, but adjusted it for a more contrasty, early 2000 cinematic look. #RunwayBigAdContest
