Arindam's car stopped moving months ago. The puddle of thick oil under the engine probably had something to do with it. He still had it washed every day though. Like Newton would have said, there was no external unbalanced force to change the inertia of his life. +

It‘s absurd to make a competitive sport of bread and butter, but the cafes and bakeries in Copenhagen have done that. The latest gastronomic sensation there is bread and butter with a slice of cheese. This in a city where the best restaurants serve foraged food. Moss, ants, fermented things, objects from intertidal zones etc. It’s called bolle med ost (bun with cheese). There’s warm sourdough with a dark crust you can hear across the table. And an interior of irregular chambers to accommodate butter. Butter we thought we knew. We’d bought it for decades, sometimes made it. This is different, whipped into folds. It’s a different physical state of fat. The cheese (usually Gammel Knas, that takes more than two years to mature) is for the salt and the nutty finish. My wife and I became quiet whenever we ate the BMO. Married people will recognise this as one of the better sorts of silence. Neither party is in trouble. Copenhagen’s bakers have been competing over this kind of stuff: flour, fermentation, seeds, the precise condition of butter, the moment when cheese is to be sliced. We’ve now begun to resent all the bread and butter we’ve previously eaten.

I have a word of advice for readers: learn to applaud. If you like something you have read, make it a point to tell the writer so. Think of it like clapping for a good performance in a theatre or in a cricket stadium. It is very important. It makes the writer realise they did something right. It encourages them to keep writing. And it also reminds their editors that they have a very good writer working for them. So if you like reading, Learn to applaud. Because if you do not, Nobody will write for you. Because nobody will know what you like.

1859 India, London and Bombay - Monsoon Over-Coat - Advertisement for Edmiston & Son in The Bombay Almanack and Book of Direction for 1859.Edmiston & Son was a prominent 19th-century British outfitter and manufacturer best known for inventing and advertising the "Monsoon Over-Coat". Historically, the company operated out of London but maintained a significant commercial presence in Bombay (now Mumbai) during the mid-to-late 1800s. Their waterproof coats became a staple for British colonial administrators, military officers, and merchants navigating the intense rainy seasons of the Indian subcontinent. The company specialized in pocket siphonia waterproof garments. Recognizing the extreme weather of British India, they heavily marketed their "Monsoon Over-Coat" specifically designed to withstand torrential downpours. Alongside other early British enterprises in the 1850s—such as Watson's Hotel (built by draper John Watson)—firms like Edmiston & Son capitalized on Bombay's rapid transformation into India's primary deep-water port and commercial centre. #BritishIndia #Advertising #History @LloydMathias @ramkid

Tambe marrying Lokhande is Alloying. Lokhande marrying Pitale is brazing Khote marrying Khare is cheating. Kale marrying Gore is contrasting. Hiwale marrying Unhale is Global warming. But Wagh marrying Waghmare is pure suicide!

This might be the funniest commercial I've seen in a very long time. Its for the jewelry section of JC Penny's and it is priceless. They really sunk some money into it. I guess they do good sales there. I know that im buying my very special lady's ring at a better known jewelry store than JC's 🤣🤣🤣💍

Shreya Ghoshal makes history! The highest peak monthly listeners ever for an Indian artist on Spotify - 56.27 million! And she also joined the Recording Academy as an official voting member for the 69th Grammy Awards. This makes me so happy as a singer and as a woman. A beautiful win for talent and true musicianship in a heavily male dominated industry! ✊🎉❤️

Every year on Oct 15, I think, with some sadness, about an Indian cricketer and tennis player (and Cambridge Blue) who just vanished after stepping out of his home in Adyar in Madras. Wrote about him last year. swarajyamag.com/amp/story/sp…

The kind of nerdy nonsense that we all need.
It's the 145th birth anniversary of PG Wodehouse. In one of the many absurd bits of trivia that make up my professional and personal life, I realised that Sachin Tendulkar doesn't have a single innings of 145 in international cricket. He doesn't even have an innings where he's faced 145 balls. He has one knock where he has batted for 145 minutes: That was 98 off 75 balls vs Pakistan in Centurion, World Cup 2003. One of his most iconic innings of all time. If he had to have just one association with 145, that's not a bad one, eh? To all those whose lives Wodehouse has affected, he's always called The Master. I needed to find a cricketing connect between his 145th birthday and the other master who shaped part of my childhood. It gives me unreasonable joy to find one that ties so specifically - within this absurdity of finding a connect at all - to such an indelible cricketing memory.

Dear protestors, since you’re being filmed without your consent, try using make-up to dodge surveillance/facial recognition cameras. Here’s a tutorial. (Draw an extra eye, a pair of lips, use colour to draw camouflage on your skin, use concealer to cover brows if need be. Get creative, help others with make-up.) Be safe, stay hydrated, stay strong. Girls, carry pepper spray. BULLIES ARE ALWAYS COWARDS, don’t forget. Stay peaceful, don’t be silent, don’t be violent. ❤️
🚨 ATTENTION: Delhi Police officers wearing Meta smart glasses for recording protesters....
