I’m writing a book. It’s called Goonworld. It’s not about gooning. Or it is, metaphorically. But mostly it’s about post-COVID culture writ large—the range of, let’s say, unusual online forms/tendencies that have emerged this decade and that have in various ways altered the texture of contemporary reality. Sort of a travelogue. A journey to the heart of slop etc. Out via FSG eventually!

Dani Blum: Famously my best friend. Famously has no social media. Probably one of the great literary essayists of our time. I can’t wait for you to read her book.

Spent a few weeks earlier this year roaming a Hollywood almost entirely reoriented around the production of “microdramas,” which are kind of like soap operas except they’re short and completely demented and optimized for your phone. Started as one kind of sad story and ended as another, differently sad kind of story. You can read it now in @NYTmag nytimes.com/2026/10/06/magaz…

We sent @danielkolitz to Los Angeles to enter the world of microdramas: the 60-second, vertical, soapy TV shows for your phone that are taking over Hollywood production and being viewed hundreds of millions of times. Here's what he found (cover story!!): nytimes.com/2026/10/06/magaz…

This stat, plus our monthly expenditures, our hopes & dreams, and a picture of the staff + a random friendly guy in an elevator, all in this year's annual report:
