I figured out how ESPN calculates fantasy football win percentage, it’s bad! ESPN made a stats 101 error when calculating their win percentage which leads to horribly miscalibrated numbers. (🧵 thread)

According to spotrac The Brewers and Rays are ranked 18th and 28th (‼️) in payrolls this year. You love to see small market teams in the World Series even though they’re given an inherent disadvantage with no salary cap

Check out the Yankees bunt defense compared to the Dodgers. Jazz Chisholm and Kiké Hernandez start in the exact same spot. Yet when Kiké spots the bunt, he sprints to first to get the out while Jazz just wanders around aimlessly and the runner reaches. Losing on the margins.

5/6: One difficulty I've faced is how valuable challenges really are. Does losing a challenge change your win probability by that much? These are all thoughts im still wrestling with, and I think that everyone in the baseball analytics world is also with the new system.
