I had a phenomenal time at #GDC2023 this year and I wanted to share art/career advice that I learned from my experience! 1. Current Job Market- Hiring freezes and layoffs are unfortunately rippling across the tech/entertainment industry. I met skilled senior artists 🧵(1/10)

I had the pleasure of meeting many up & coming talented artists during portfolio reviews at GDC. While there’s a TON of talent, there’s so much competition with tough times & hiring freezes. Collecting some feedback and sharing here in hopes it helps just one person. Thread 🧵

Had some folk ask me about getting their illustration folios ready for agent submission - so here's a thread of my top tips - 1. Make sure you have a website. It doesn't have to be flashy or expensive but it must look clean, and be easy to navigate.

We recently opened hiring for a number of associate / entry-level game designer roles. This is exciting and a great opportunity. While looking at and talking to a lot of candidates, some things stood out to keep in mind when applying for jobs. No surprises here but a 🧵(1/18)

Some have called 2022 the year of "microgames". In the wake of @poncle_vampire a host of ~$2 games were created mostly by solo developers or tiny #IndieDev teams in the span of a few months. Let's talk game dev experimentalism! 🧵👇 1/9

finishing games is the main skill in game making and the hardest skill to learn. lower the complexity. take something “known” like Tetris, Breakout or Flappy Bird, recreate the rules exactly & then change 1 rule to something new. polish it with a fun start screen or custom art.
Game devs, what is your top tip to folks making their first game? ✨

I thought the same thing. Student loan interest rates are significantly higher than a home loan or car loan. Much worse than the amount I took out to go to school is the amount I owe now and the amount I will end up paying over the life of trying to pay off this debt

100% agree with the following quote about AI art—“First, and most importantly: Making art is a deeply rewarding, soul-enriching experience. There's nothing like it. Even if AI changes or displaces jobs, isn't a life where you're making art better than a life where you aren't?”
