This is quite a revelation! I somehow feel after Modi is voted out of power we could see one of the richest harvests of books written by retired judges, bureaucrats, police officials, military officers, election commissioners, top RBI officials, BJP's own dissenting leaders revealing all about 15 years of NDA under Modi. It will certainly be an avalanche of relevations since so much has been brushed under the carpet. Some of it already happening gradually. General Naravane book was one such.

Today, @TheStatesmanLtd - the newspaper of my hometown, Kolkata - published a story that uses @FoxNews to allude to the idea that I am somehow involved in the protests in France (thestatesman.com/world/expla…) The journalist who wrote the story - @kamnaAKrish - did not bother to contact me for the story, but only cited Fox, hardly a believable source. The story is ugly and dangerous, fuelling fires that turn against me and my friends who are interested in the realisation of social justice globally. What is particularly annoying for me is that I began my journalism career as one of Desmond Doig's Junior Statesman reporters. That's me in the 1970s with my JS badge proudly on my shirt. Too bad that The Statesman now lives in the gutter and has forgotten the valiant editorial work of S. Nihal Singh (who won the International Editor of the Year Award in 1978 for his opposition to The Emergency).

Each seat was important for winning West Bengal assembly elections for BJP. Yusuf Pathan was given a plot, in Baroda. The total market value of the land is estimated at ₹20.53 crore, based on a valuation of ₹2.10 lakh. It was a gift for quitting TMC. Election commission successfully deleted TMC votes, and leaders were bought. That's how BJP remains in power without mandate and GenZ is on roads.

THE WHY IS THE STORY. Yusuf Pathan sought a municipal plot in Vadodara in 2012. The proposal was rejected by the Gujarat government in 2014. In 2024, the BJP-controlled VMC served him an encroachment notice. The land was valued at ₹20.5 crore. Now, two months after he quit TMC, Gujarat proposes to GIFT him 500 sq m and sell him another 478 sq m at a 45% discount. What changed? Why should a disputed public plot be gifted to a politician on such sweet terms?
