Who thought it was a good idea to convene a two-day conference talking about Afghanistan without key Afghans there? Afghan journalist @bsarwary says: ‘Our country is treated as a security problem to manage, a market to supply and a corridor to cross, while our people struggle to be heard’ #Afghanistan
Afghanistan on the Agenda. Afghans off the Guest List? Two days discussing Afghanistan in Oslo. Uzbek officials named. Norwegian counterparts acknowledged. Not a single Afghan participant identified. Were any Afghans invited? If not, why not? Our country is treated as a security problem to manage, a market to supply and a corridor to cross, while our people struggle to be heard. The stakes are painfully real, over 21 million Afghans need humanitarian assistance this year. Over two million girls remain excluded from secondary education. Where do they feature in this “pragmatic” agenda? Uzbekistan has every right to pursue trade and protect its borders. But commercial interests should face scrutiny when presented as peacebuilding. Of the reported $1.6 billion in bilateral trade in 2025, roughly 94% consisted of Uzbek exports to Afghanistan. What has this growing relationship delivered for Afghan livelihoods and what influence has Tashkent used to defend Afghan rights? NOREF and the Norwegian participants also owe answers. Who brought the concerns of Afghan women, journalists, teachers and struggling families into the room? Who challenged the assumption that greater regional connectivity will, by itself, produce lasting peace? The public account mentions security, trade, energy and transit. It says nothing about rights, representation or accountability. Were these priorities raised, or were they inconvenient to the conversation? This echoes a familiar pattern from the 1990s. Outsiders discussing their interests in Afghanistan while Afghans bear the costs. Our borders can open to commerce while our classrooms remain closed to girls. Dialogue has value. But another meeting, another photograph and another promise to meet again are not evidence of progress. Which commitments emerged? Who will follow them up? How will ordinary Afghans benefit? Before calling this a “promising start,” tell us: promising for whom? @NOREFno @president_uz @uwedofficial @IICAinTashkent @EUSEAfghanistan

If all out war is starters again - a reminder that two old men decided that sending young men out to kill and bomb and maim was their only way to avoid election losses and criminal charges.
BREAKING: Donald Trump now announces the United States is “not negotiating” with Iran, and a major development is expected “fairly soon,” telling reporters, “Most people seem to think it’s after the election, we’re gonna see what happens,” per NewsNation’s White House correspondent. The declaration comes directly after Haaretz cited White House sources saying Trump shifted his position and is now considering a major preemptive strike on Iran, driven by intelligence assessments from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth after his secret meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu. The diplomatic track is officially dead. It lands as Washington orders the complete evacuation of its embassy staff from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, pulling its diplomats out while positioning a third carrier strike group in the region. The window for a deal has closed, and the next phase is coming soon.

In case the media starts saying Iran attacked the US ships… here is the precursor event 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
BREAKING: The U.S. has reportedly struck Iran’s Konarak Naval Base on the country’s southeastern coast, hitting a 35mm Oerlikon anti-aircraft cannon with two projectiles around 1 a.m. local time on October 19 and wounding two Iranian Navy personnel, per an Iranian Navy spokesperson cited by Al Jazeera. The spokesperson said the projectiles were fired by American forces, while local reports recorded two explosions in the Konarak area. The strike may have involved a U.S. Air Force MQ-9 Reaper drone firing an AGM-114 Hellfire missile after the cannon opened fire. The last reported U.S. strike on Iranian soil was on September 1, nearly seven weeks ago. Iran is now likely to respond, potentially marking the beginning of a new round of direct U.S.-Iran military confrontation.

What @joekent16jan19 says👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 Military hardware & their i forever wars aren’t bringing security. They cause insecurity and poverty for the masses at home and abroad. But their shareholders and executives gorge on wealth they amass from the destruction of lives and lands and oceans. Time to take these companies to court for aiding and abetting war crimes and crimes against humanity
“The war is not meant to be won, it is meant to be continuous.” — George Orwell, 1984 Defense contractors & their powerful lobby will never be satisfied with simply aiding the U.S. in building a strong military that is prepared for war. The nature of the industry’s existence is not patriotism, but endless conflict. War is their business model—a perpetual state of war ensures a perpetual demand for their products. Until we address this issue, we will continue to be subjected to forever wars that only serve the defense contractors—and the warmongering interests wealthy enough to rent the defense contractors. Stop spilling American blood for profit.

What @SinaToossi says👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 The trivialization of Iranian politics and culture through anecdotal stories is described in Farsi as “khaleh zanaki” (auntie lady) but as always this is a misnomer - Iranian women’s analyses, strategies and actions have always been incredibly sophisticated- unlike this superficiality from such revered institutions
Actually @ksadjadpour’s essay exemplifies the dismal standards that long passed for serious Iran "analysis" in Washington: reducing decades of evolving Iranian strategy to pure ideological dogma, erasing US and Israeli policy choices, and ignoring the dynamics that led to war.

Missiles and drones break many school children’s bones And these words are a lead up to harm and dehumanization. Where are the leaders with courage to speak out? 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
My latest for @truthout: For months, Donald Trump has been issuing chilling threats to Iranians, pledging to end "a whole civilization." Legal scholars believe this rhetoric should have consequences. Some have told me it's incitement to mass atrocities truthout.org/articles/trumps…

On October 7th, the world was told Hamas beheaded babies and out them in ovens. That was false. We were not told of many true cases where civilians were spared. I've compiled, for the first time, testimony from 26 cases where Hamas fighters spared civilians, citing orders to do so. The lie was used to justify Israel's slaughter of tens of thousands of civilians since.

Iran has more gold medals in both than all the Muslim countries on the planet, combined. It practically beat every Asian country other than China/S Korea in both (beat/lost Japan). And that’s with 3700 sanctions and 1/35th the education budget of Germany (where it either nearly matched or beat it).
The real cope is to pretend to forget that East Asia has had Western scientific education for decades but minimal contributions; or to ignore IMO and IOI scores and pretend that purpose of “meritocracy” is to overproduce somewhat mediocre accountants and call center managers
