So what u are saying is that at least 230,000 girls and boys and young men and women were victims of a form of crime that police define as violence against women and girls, an approach that effectively removes visibility and regard for roughly one in every three victims?
A major new report by police chiefs has found that a rise in violence against women and girls is linked to "online influences" and harmful content.
In its first national risk assessment - the report said at least 230,000 children and young people in relationships were victims of abuse.
They also found domestic abuse remained the most significant threat and described the scale of violence as a "national emergency".

Petition: Do not extend BBC licence fee to streaming services
Govt is considering extending the BBC licence fee to include subscribers of streaming services that are not owned or run by BBC.
We believe this is a wholly unacceptable proposal.

Not all of you are based in the UK, but those who are, should be sharing this petition.
Scrap VAWG policy, that hides male victims, for something gender neutral that focuses on behaviours.

This is just embarrassing.
40% of men in UK prisons are there for non-violent crimes too, and the male prison population is 24x larger than womens', yet you say nothing about them.
What kind of journalism even is this?

“If misinformation really were the threat ministers describe, one would expect its footprint to be visible in what people believe.”
Labour are planning to build the most restrictive apparatus of speech control since Charles I. The evidence it relies on does not survive contact with reality.
In July, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy flounced off X, taking her government department with her, blaming mis- and disinformation for her departure. Weeks earlier, her department had published its green paper, Watch this Space, which suggests platforms be compelled by law to give prominence to “regulated public service media” such as the BBC. Meanwhile, Lucy Powell, Labour’s Deputy Leader, wants platforms brought under “some of the same requirements” of accuracy and balance as licensed broadcasters during election campaigns.
Beneath this sits a single document: a 136-page “evidence review”, commissioned by the Government Office for Science (GO-Science) from a seven-person team at Sheffield University. Its authors made no attempt to establish what was actually true or false online. Instead, by their own account, they relied on summaries generated by large language models of 228 academic papers they had not read.
More significant is what the review missed. A Nature paper by Budak and her colleagues states that “public intellectuals and journalists frequently make sweeping claims about the effects of exposure to false content online that are inconsistent with much of the current empirical evidence”. Visits to 490 websites deemed “untrustworthy” made up just 5.9 per cent of Americans’ clicks on news sites; with television included, “fake news” accounts for roughly 0.1 per cent of the average media diet. “This reality,” the authors observed, “is not reflected in public discourse about social media.”
Britain has been here before. In July 1637, the Star Chamber of Charles I decreed that nothing might be published without a licence from approved authorities.
The Government’s case rests on a review that read nothing, measured nothing, and ignored the research that contradicted it. The case for the most far-reaching apparatus to restrict peacetime speech since the ousted Stuart king amounts to misinformation about misinformation.

If we truly want to end domestic abuse and get people the help they need, we have to make it clear that women can be perpetrators and men can be victims as well.
The investigators in this case thanked the victim for his bravery in coming forward, and urged the public to believe that they will take anyone’s claims of domestic abuse—even men’s—seriously. The recent Crime Survey for England and Wales showed that an estimated 2.2 million females and 1.5 million males, aged 16 years and over, had suffered domestic abuse in the previous 12 months.

Yet again, a video attempting to uproot the life saving Office for Men’s Health Bill, has gone viral.
It has hundreds of thousands of views and likes, and endless angry comments, in less than twelve hours.
Because, who cares that American men lead in 13 of the top 15 causes of death, that they die more at every age than women, and have worse health outcomes in every racial, ethnic and socioeconomic group?
Instead, here’s the familiar ‘women were excluded from clinical trials’ slogan, and another about male rats, and “something something, male bodies were centred” slop.
Look -
There are TEN federal, tax funded Offices for Women’s Health, and ZERO for men - despite men’s awful health outcomes.
And yet, clearly one is still too many for low effort, narcissistic, rage bait grifters like @katiecouric.

Senior figures at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, under the command of Andy Burnham, have cautioned firefighters who support Reform UK over their political views.
In a further chilling assault on free speech, staff have also effectively been urged in an email to report colleagues who support Reform.
Fire brigade bosses have also said they are seeking legal advice on what to do about firefighters who decide to stand as Reform UK candidates. This is despite the fact that, unlike police officers, there is no legal bar preventing firefighters from participating in national or local politics.
In their email, fire brigade bosses Mr Petch and Ms Ahmed said: ’We are aware that some staff members have chosen to represent Reform UK in their local areas. We know this may cause concern within our network and wider.
’The individuals involved have been spoken to, to make it clear that as members of GMFRS (Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service) our core values and professional behaviours must be displayed at all times.
’The service is currently seeking formal legal guidance… to ensure we are protected from all perspectives and that our inclusive culture remains safe.
‘Our priority is and always will be ensuring that every member of this network feels supported, respected and safe at work.’
They also confirmed that they would be consulting the Fire Brigades Union on the matter.
In his role as Mayor of Greater Manchester, @AndyBurnhamGM — who is also tipped by some to be a future Prime Minister if he wins the Makerfield by-election — is also Greater Manchester’s Fire Commissioner, responsible for overseeing the service.
General Secretary of the Free Speech Union, Lord Young of Acton, has now written to Mr Burnham to raise concerns about the chilling effect this has on free speech.
Lord Young said that the ‘clear implication’ of the email from the fire brigade bosses was that ‘representing Reform UK constitutes an inherent threat to the institution’s culture and values and is to be treated as morally suspect’. He also highlighted that no action appears to have been taken against firefighters who support other political parties.
The letter also states: ‘Staff are further invited to report colleagues who support any groups that go against the service’s values, which effectively amounts to an instruction to inform on colleagues for their political beliefs.
’The email will create a chilling effect on the free speech of GMFRS employees who support Reform.
’The practical effect is that a public fire and rescue service governed by you is treating the lawful political activity of your electoral opponents as a reputational risk to their employer.
‘Regardless of whether this reflects your instruction, it reflects your governance; and a public office-holder who permits his institution to demonise or chill the speech and political activity of those who support his principal electoral rival cannot claim to be discharging that office with the impartiality it demands.’

This whole article is a who’s who of statistical manipulation.
Even when men were ‘one in three’ victims of abuse, the UK Stats Regulator ruled words like ‘vast majority’ to be inappropriate descriptors of the female:male disparity.
So now this has risen to ‘41% of domestic abuse victims are men’, words like ‘overwhelming majority’ are even more unwelcome and misleading.
@Jess4Lowestoft your job is to represent your constituents equally, rather than virtue signal, lie, and twist statistics to fulfil some egotistical ideological agenda.
Shame on you.

Thank you to @SammieB1980 for these important findings.
Hugely and deeply concerning...sadly we are not surprised.
We are publishing our interim report on male survivors from the Our Own Words 2026 survey.
8.5% of our 768 respondents identified as male. That is 65 men. A small number. Worth every bit of attention.
The findings are difficult to read.
63% of male respondents say the police did not help them.
64% say the police made things more difficult.
72% say their perpetrator faced no accountability at all.
81% say a service made them feel less safe or caused further trauma.
Only 3% felt professionals understood the full picture of risk they faced.
These are not men who avoided services. These are men who sought help and were failed.
The most common barrier to seeking help in the first place? Fear of not being believed. Cited by 71%.
For many, that fear turned out to be well founded.
This is not an argument that domestic abuse is not a gendered issue. It is. The evidence on that is clear and we stand by it.
This is an argument that men are also victims, that they face specific and compounding barriers, and that right now the system is not meeting them.
One respondent wrote: "Abuse is real for us men. It nearly drives me to ending my life. Police and courts need training in male victim abuse and they need to fund specialist charities like the little one I thankfully found that saved my life."
That sentence contains the whole problem and the whole answer.
The voluntary sector is doing what the statutory sector is not. 70% of male respondents who used voluntary or charity organisations said they helped. 73% felt heard.
The contrast with statutory services is not subtle.
What does this report ask for?
Not new rights. Not new laws. Delivery of existing ones.
Believe men when they disclose. Do a risk assessment. Do not assume the man is the perpetrator. Commission services that can reach them.
Thank you to every man who trusted us with their experience.
