After our EU Council files exposed how Member States watered down EU Inc behind closed doors, the battle moves to 🇪🇺Parliament.
Welcome to rule 72!! 🍿 We need our European Parliament to wake up.
Help us by reposting so our MEPs see this.
The @Europarl_EN 's @EP_Legal (JURI, 25 MEPs) meet tomorrow Nov 5th & may vote tomorrow on EU Inc while hiding their vote & bypassing the parliament other MEPs . 🧵1/3

We tasked Mistral Large 4 with creating a real-time, 3D tracker of the roughly 19,000 satellites and debris fragments orbiting Earth.
The model built a working app, tested it like a user, made it fast, and passed strict verification.

New post
Like many of you, I've sometimes been frustrated by the quality of the discussion about AI in the media and in the political debate ahead of the presidential election in France.
So what started as a conversation in a restaurant at the end of September (napkin in the post) became a 3-page GDoc called "A note on AI to a candidate at the French presidential election”. It's non-partisan, and it's been circulating privately in French for a few weeks. I thought I'd publish it more broadly in French and English below (both GDocs in comments).
No AI slop, just my thoughts and a few graphs and sources dug up by Claude, in 3 short pages.
Probably nothing very new if you follow closely, but hopefully still interesting.
Hope you enjoy!

Germany introduces new sugar and AI taxes within a few months, but when entrepreneurs ask for changes to simplify employee stock options, notary processes, or EU Inc., it takes thousands of people more than 10 years of lobbying to make simple changes.
I’m so fucking sick of our incompetent politicians. It doesn’t matter which party you vote for; it truly feels like we’re governed by a bunch of clueless boomers, too stupid to work together to fix education, healthcare, welfare, mass immigration or anything else that requires more than two brain cells.
I’m ready to either leave permanently or hit the reset button. Afuera!

Unsere papierstempelnden, Buchstaben-ablesenden Notare würden ja weniger verdienen. 😄

Member States will tell you with a straight face that Europe needs less red tape.
Then, behind closed doors, they try to water down #EUInc, an initiative that would benefit thousands of innovative companies across the continent, to:
🔸️keep notaries mandatory for buying and selling shares
🔸️add notarial steps where an eIDAS signature already does the job
🔸️protect notaries' and registries' revenue
🔸️ copy-paste lobby arguments against a digital registry
🔸️question the legal basis to stall the whole file
Bravo to 🇦🇹 🇸🇮 🇪🇪 🇭🇷 🇧🇬 🇱🇹 for these surreal proposals: a slap in the face to every founder trying to build in Europe, and to the citizens who asked for simplification.
Ladies & Gentlemen, we have managed to get the @EUCouncil ' EU Inc files. The ones that matter. The ones where we see the position of Each Member state: including who pushed the notaries' agenda.
Buckle up and Repost. 🍿 Now if you are from those Member States, make some noise.

All for petty gains…
The kings of their small castles, unwilling to unify.
People keep shitting on Brussels leadership for issues in Europe.
In my experience so far it’s member states and parliament that come up with hurdles and insane clauses that renders europe wide fixes useless.
Usually because of status quo lobbists or incentives to never change anything m.
No idea where @euacchq got this file from, as this stuff in usually not leaked, but to read for yourself.
(And council doesn’t even come up with the really crazy change requests, Parliament does.)
PS: welcome to my hell lol.

So far at @MistralAI we've been extremely capital efficient, and we believe the "only" delta with the closed labs is compute.
We need much more compute, and we will build it.
"Build or surrender" as the saying goes.
Mistral researcher @Sagar_Vaze argues Mistral can catch OpenAI and Anthropic despite starting years later and having far less compute:
"What it would have taken for us to get to the frontier in 2023 was us to be founded in 2020 or 2019."
"This is really the key difference between ourselves, a very new lab, and some of the more established players. We just started a few years later."
"The models we've released today are state-of-the-art in a bunch of key capabilities, finance, law, engineering, some multimodal tasks."
"On agentic coding, we’re the best OSS model. Catching up with OpenAI and Anthropic is absolutely on the cards. That's absolutely the vision of Mistral."
"We don't want open weights and closed weights to have some delta in performance in the long term."
"The thing we need to get there is compute. We’ve raised 6 billion, dollars or euros, a lot of money by traditional standards. But compared to what these other labs have raised, it’s a drop in the bucket."
"We’ve convinced ourselves that we can do more with less, and the next step is to do much more with much more."

French protestors want higher public spending, wages, subsidies and pensions. Meanwhile France has gov’t spending of 57% of GDP (among highest of Western countries), deficits of 5% of GDP, 10 year bond rate >5%, and a currency they don’t control. I don’t understand how this ends.

Good Morning from Germany, where one of Europe’s biggest landlords calls the country “uninvestable.” Heimstaden is withholding fresh capital over Berlin’s expropriation plans. It owns 20,000 apartments in the city worth ~€5bn and estimates a potential €1bn loss. Its hybrid bond has plunged from ~98 cents in August to 82.5. The irony: a policy meant to tackle the housing shortage risks driving away investment without building a single new home. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
