Had a sophisticated fraud attempt on my AP team last week.
Scary good…
The fraud tactics are the same, but AI has removed friction on the evidence layer. We were deeply researched, very convincing emails, and near perfect documentation (invoice, bank change requests, etc)

All it took was one clip for the foam party girl to become the main character of the internet this week. She didn't sign up for that. Nobody usually does, but in today's era of ubiquitous video and global social media, it can still happen.
So if a stranger filmed you right now and it hit 5M views, how fast could someone find your name, job, and address?
Most people have never checked. They assume they're anonymous until they're not, and by then it's too late to do anything but react.
Here's how to make yourself harder to find, before you ever need to:
Start by searching yourself the way a stranger would. Reverse image search your own photos (Google Lens, PimEyes) and see what's already connected to your face. Google your name plus your city, your name plus your employer. Whatever comes up in five minutes is what a stranger would find in five minutes.
Check the people-search sites next. Start with Whitepages, Spokeo, BeenVerified, and the dozens like them. Most of them are pulling your address, phone number, and relatives from public records and selling it back to anyone who looks. Opt out of as many as you can. It's tedious, but it's the single highest-leverage thing you can do.
Go through your tagged photos and public posts. Anything with your face, your workplace, your neighborhood, your daily routine is a data point someone can stitch together. You don't need to delete your life. Focus on not making the pattern easy to see from the outside.
Lock down what's public versus private on your socials. Put some thought into why you're making something public.
And know the reporting process on the platforms you use before you need it. If something ever does happen, you don't want to be learning how to report doxxing in the middle of a crisis.
The foam party girl didn't get a choice in going viral. You don't get a choice in that either. The only thing you control is what's waiting to be found when someone starts looking.

Your house has a credit report.
It's a file that tracks your house's claims history. Insurers pull it before they'll cover you or set your price.
You're legally allowed to see it, dispute it, and fix it.
Almost nobody does.

If your internet connection got flagged for something you didn’t do, could you prove it wasn’t you?
That’s the real risk here, not criminal charges (courts have been skeptical of IP addresses as evidence for over a decade), but the more mundane version:
->your ISP gets a complaint, flags or kills your account, and you spend weeks proving someone else’s traffic ran through your box.<-
Meanwhile, whoever caused it moved on before your account was even suspended.
Worth checking what’s plugged into your TV before that call comes.

Meta just opted every public Instagram account into AI image generation.
Anyone can @ mention your handle and Muse Image will remix your public photos into whatever they’re prompting for.
You won’t get notified when it happens.
Here’s how to turn it off: Profile menu > Sharing and reuse > turn off Posts and Reels.

A research team building this for people who can’t speak is a good thing.
The question is what the ad business attached to that team does with a working brain-to-text pipeline.
Same tech, very different motive depending on who’s holding it.
We’re sharing the next major milestone in our non-invasive brain-to-text decoder research: Brain2Qwerty v2.
Building on v1, which was published today in @Nature, Brain2Qwerty v2 is the highest-performing end-to-end pipeline capable of real-time sentence decoding from raw brain signals. It advances beyond character-level performance to decoding words and semantics, enabling accuracy for overall communication.
We believe this research has the potential to make a real difference for the millions of people who suffer from brain lesions or disorders that prevent them from communicating.

Apple calls itself the privacy company. But its ad targeting is on by default.
Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Advertising > Personalized Ads
What "on" means:
-> Apple uses your App Store activity to target you
-> It uses what you read in Apple News
-> It builds an ad profile inside its own apps
While off won't kill the ads, it does kill the profile. Ten seconds, most people never opened that menu.

Your credit card isn't just a payment method. It's a data collection instrument with its own revenue line.
Mastercard has at least 25 products built on cardholder transaction data. Amex launched its own version in October 2025. Visa shut one down in 2021 and never clearly confirmed it stopped.
You're paying an annual fee to fund a data business built on your habits.

The best argument for age verification: it might reduce some minors' access to some adult content on some platforms.
The cost: a permanent, real-identity-linked record of every adult who accesses any content the government later decides to regulate.
The gen pop isn't asking if that trade is worth it. That needs to change and fast.

Age verification doesn't stop minors from accessing content.
It stops most adults from accessing content anonymously.
Those are different policy goals. Only one of them is being admitted to.

Any runners or cyclists out there?
Strava heatmaps are public by default. So are Peloton and Apple Fitness routes. Almost every route starts and ends at your front door.
The path to your home address isn't only sitting in a data breach somewhere. It's also on a fitness platform you set up two years ago and haven't thought about since.
Most people assume private means private by default. On these fitness tracking platforms, it doesn't.
Worth checking before your next outing.

Mastercard has at least 25 data products built on your spending history. Most cardholders don't know that division exists.
And it doesn't need your name:
- Merchant, amount, date, and location are enough
- Repeat that over months and a behavioral profile emerges
- That profile gets sold to advertisers, data brokers, and anyone willing to pay
Mastercard calls this "anonymized." U.S. PIRG spent a year reviewing it and disagreed.
Amex just launched its own version. Visa shut one down in 2021 and never confirmed it stopped monetizing transaction data through other means.

The 2026 job search process is broken.
Recruiters are ghosting job seekers. AI is filtering out qualified candidates.
Now we have to worry about fake recruiters doing interviews to steal your biometrics to commit fraud.

91% of U.S. banks are currently rethinking their voice biometric authentication because AI cloning has made it unreliable.
That's clearly not a fringe concern, but the vast majority of the banking industry acknowledging that a security layer they rolled out at scale may already be broken.
The fake job interview ruse is one of the biggest factors for the change.
Find out why in the link below.

That's how much a synthetic identity built from your face and voice sells for on criminal marketplaces.
Fake recruiters are running 30-minute video "interviews" for the sole purpose of recording your facial geometry and voice samples.
It's bad enough real recruiters are ghosting people left and right. Now fake recruiters are out there stealing your biometrics.
