Very big deal
We announced an agreement to acquire a nationwide low-band spectrum license portfolio that will pave the way for @Starlink to become a major mobile carrier in the US. With this new spectrum and our Gen2 constellation, Starlink Mobile can ensure Americans have access to high-speed mobile broadband no matter where they are → spacex.com/updates#starlink-…

Quasi-RH?!?!???! Are you kidding me? If a human did this, it would be an instant Fields Medal, no questions asked. RH says zeta has no zeros in Re(s)>1/2. The best we had until a second ago was a region that got thinner and thinner the higher up the imaginary axis you go. I thought maybe they’d fatten that up a bit, that’d be a massive breakthrough. But no. They got a zero free strip!!!! Insane
We’re releasing a broad range of new mathematical results produced by an internal frontier model. We’ve been consulting with the independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence at the Institute for Advanced Study, and we have drawn on their advice and public recommendations to inform how we release these results. github.com/openai/math

Menlo has tried to rebuild from the ground up how we think about investing and we are fortunate to be lead investors in 5 of the top 15 consumer AI apps by monthly revenue despite our low volume strategy. Thanks for the shout, Shaun! Have a ton of admiration for what you have done at Sequoia. Too many people know you for your firebrand tweets and too few know your excellent investments and that you have a PhD in physics from Caltech (and it’s fun to have your cofounder be a partner!)
Menlo Ventures is on a tear They led an investment in Anthropic at an ~$4B valuation At the time, most thought OpenAI would be the singular AI winner Maybe we’ll see something similar with @FactoryAI? 👀 Welcome to the Factory team @mmurph!

Matt Murphy is a legendary investor with a track record of being very early and being very right. He led the Series D of Anthropic in Jan 2024. Their best model was Claude 2.1. I am thrilled to have @mmurph and Menlo Ventures investing in @FactoryAI. We are still so early.
Menlo is investing in @FactoryAI 🚀 Proud to back Factory as they build the system that automates the entire software lifecycle: planning, review, testing, security, documentation, all of it. Coding has gone from $550M to $30B+ in two years, but generation was only one piece. Factory closes the rest of the loop with a shared, governed, model-agnostic platform. Excited to partner with @matanSF and @EnoReyes, and to witness their talent and vision firsthand. More from @mmurph: menlovc.com/perspective/menl…

It's incredible that citizens in places like France can spend so much energy on Jews, Zionists, and Israel - which have virtually no tangible impact on their daily lives. But totally avoid the topic of Muslim immigrants from third-world countries who aren't assimilating - and are rioting in the streets. French team wins the Champions League - violent riots. France has a protest over budgets - more violent riots. France has group rape committed disproportionately Muslims from third-world countries - silence. France has constant terrorist attacks by radicalized Muslims - silence. It's not racist or Islamophobic to talk about this. In fact, other Muslims, immigrants, brown, and black people - who do love Western values - should be calling out the misbehavior of those who don't. Because if you don't talk about it, only the racists and Islamophobes will. France - the reason you keep having riots is because you keep allowing people into the country who do not share your values or value your norms. This isn't logically complicated, it's just emotionally scary to say. You must find the courage to have the conversation. You must overcome the postcolonial white guilt that causes you to hold your tongues. By the way - the reason you have people waving Palestine flags at these riots is because they see the world as brown+black vs white. As dark-skinned people versus light-skinned people. As oppressed versus oppressors. They aren't thinking from first-principles about domestic issues. They are attached to a global ideology. That's why there were many Palestine flags at the ICE protests in LA too. It's a dysfunctional, but common view of the world. And antithetical to Western, colorblind, universal values. Jews, Zionists, and Israel have little to do with your problems in your neighborhoods - unchecked Muslim third-world immigration does. If you are more focused on problems outside your house than inside your house, you have the wrong priorities. Get your house in order. xitter.cf/visegrad24/status/2105…

Outrage in France after Bally Bagayoko, the far-left mayor of the country’s most infamous no-go zone Saint-Denis joined student rioters who were attacking a high school in the area. He could be seen laughing with them, giving high fives and jumping up and down. Bagayoko is the mayor of 150 000 people, of which around 90% are immigrants, second-generation migrants and third-generation migrants.

Vote “NO” on Dave Regan & his pet Prop 40. Dave is all about Dave - that’s why he is under investigation & the police, teachers, planned parenthood, building trades & many others all oppose Dave & Prop 40. The evidence is overwhelming it will badly hurt CA! 🇺🇸🧐
Dave Regan, the @SEIU -UHW president and architect of California’s billionaire tax is under two union investigations that substantiated allegations of intimidation, attempted extortion, and a prior physical assault. He is now facing a federal racketeering suit from health clinics. The lawsuit alleged that he “instructed SEIU agents to tell Hispanic home care workers that if they did not vote for SEIU, ICE would be called and the workers would be deported.”  It’s always those who rail about such things that prove to be the most hypocritical. sfchronicle.com/politics/art…

It’s amazing how damaging a single false premise (the blank slate fallacy) can be for humans. Same holds true for AI.
I thought the tweet below must be omitting some critical context or paraphrasing the text ungenerously. But no, the NYT actually published an op-ed that claims the University of California hasn't sacrificed excellence even though it admits students who struggle with basic math.

Great piece by my partner Konstantine, on how AI is a cognition revolution and how it compares to what we saw with the industrial revolution. "Over the course of about two centuries, physical work went from 99% biological to 99.9% machine. [...] A century ago, 99% of cognitive work was done by humans. In the near future, 99.9% will be done by machines. What stays economically human the longest is what was never really cognition to begin with: wanting things, choosing between them, being accountable for the choice, and being trusted by other people."

Listen to our CTO, @EnoReyes, in conversation with 20VC's @HarryStebbings. They cover what’s happening at the frontier of AI right now, the importance of model independence, enterprise sovereign intelligence, and much more:
Harry Stebbings
@HarryStebbingsAug 29
I first met @matanSF following a kind intro from @MattEvantic.   We went for a walk in Hyde Park. I was in my trusty short shorts and it was kinda awkward as a walk.  It was awkward because after 5 mins, he was clearly a genius and for the next 55 mins, I just had to pretend like I had more questions to ask before saying with intense eagerness, “can I invest”.  Thank the lord he let me. And through that I got to spend time with his co-founder, @EnoReyes.  Eno is this insane combination of a truly brilliant technologist with an intense awareness of what it takes to build an insanely high-margin, efficient business in AI.  I sat down with Eno when he was in London recently (episode in comments) and have added my handwritten notes below.  Special thanks to @rabois @shaunmmaguire @byersblake @Sabina_Smith_ @laurenmhreeder for some amazing question suggestions. -- 1. The Frontier in AI Right Now The true frontier of AI is building verification systems where no benchmarks exist. Creating systematic frameworks for what “good” looks like allows AI to reliably execute complex, high-friction human tasks that were previously difficult to automate. Is this the true beauty of Instinct @noahrshinn @saranormous 2. The Two Ways That Large Language Models Will Win Frontier model providers face two paths: dominate infrastructure through high-volume inference or move up the stack into high-margin applications. But model-locked applications can conflict with what enterprises actually want: the best possible outcome across multiple models. Love to hear your thoughts on this specifically @AnjneyMidha @mmurph 3. What Is Required to Get the Most Out of Models? Simple gateway routing outside the execution layer delivers only basic cost savings. Maximizing agentic performance requires operating statefully inside the workflow itself, dynamically understanding context, execution history, and what needs to happen next. How do you think about this @alexatallah @shensi @ThibaultJaigu @rauchg @koblovinamerica 4. Why 80% of Neo Labs Will Die and What Separates the Winners From the Losers The winners will anchor themselves to durable enterprise workflows that do not disappear as underlying frontier models improve. Single biggest advice to VCs on investing in neolabs today @LiamFedus 5. Why the Harness Is So Valuable and Who Ultimately Is the Sovereign of Your Intelligence Continuous learning and workflow optimization happen at the harness layer, not inside closed model APIs. True enterprise sovereignty requires owning your harnesses and learning loops so critical intelligence remains proprietary rather than being ceded to third-party labs. 6. Why We Should Not Be Scared to Use Chinese Open-Source Models Labeling open-source weights as dangerous “Chinese models” can obscure the distinction between model provenance and actual security risk. Open models can reflect creator biases, but their risks should be evaluated technically rather than by origin alone. As open weights improve, they could power a growing share of standard enterprise workflows.

I made Claude compete against itself. The smartest model does not automatically make the best agent. To prove it, I took the same Opus 4.6 model, initial prompt, and empty repo and but it inside two different coding harnesses: Claude Code vs. @FactoryAI Droid. The task: clone Excalidraw from scratch, inspect the original in a browser, implement its key interactions, and verify the result. Factory Droid: 8 minutes, 20 tool calls, $1.60 Claude Code: 19 minutes, 40 tool calls, $1.87 The only difference was the harness. Get Free Factory credits here: forms.gle/PJ7pwAGou3dbKywJ8

February: no frontier model could solve Irregular's hardest exploitation task. By April: the best one could, occasionally, for ~$2,000. By June: several could, reliably, for ~$20. Over the next year, we will likely enter a period where AI's offensive capability outpaces defense at scale. @dan_lahav and the @Irregular team are truly at the frontier of AI security, as major partners to the frontier labs. This is the most detailed and thoughtful account of where AI security is today, where it's headed, and what we can do now so defenders don't fall behind.
