AWS Sri Lanka VAT Update – Key Points
AWS will begin charging 18% Sri Lankan VAT on AWS cloud services and AWS Marketplace purchases for customers in Sri Lanka who are not VAT registered.
The exact start date has not yet been announced. AWS will send a follow-up notice before VAT begins to be charged.
Action required by July 31, 2026.
What you need to do
- If your AWS account is not actually based in Sri Lanka
- Update your Billing Address (and Contact Address if necessary) in the AWS Billing Console.
- If your AWS account is based in Sri Lanka and your business is VAT registered
Go to AWS Billing Console → Tax Settings.
- Enter your Sri Lanka VAT Tax Registration Number (TRN).
- Ensure your Business Legal Name and Business Legal Address are correct.
If you provide a valid TRN, AWS will not charge Sri Lankan VAT on your invoices (subject to the applicable tax rules).
