What occurred at Salt Lake Stadium today was the outcome of serious mismanagement by the private organisers entrusted with the event. While the State Government provided the necessary permissions, the responsibility for on-ground arrangements, ticketing and crowd rested entirely with the organisers. This is particularly evident when viewed against Salt Lake Stadium’s proven track record as a FIFA-accredited venue that has successfully hosted numerous large-scale events. Smt. @mamataofficial has taken prompt cognisance of the issue and ordered a detailed inquiry. The police will also investigate whether any deliberate attempts were made to provoke unrest by a certain group of people. Such failures by organisers, and any efforts to defame Bengal, will not be overlooked. Stern action will be taken.
