1M+ downloads and we DONT show up when you search “app blocker” on the App Store 💀
Selfdrive found that in one run. Same for “screen time” and “screen time control”, the 3 biggest searches in our whole category.

I’m giving away $2,000 worth of consulting calls, completely for free.
All you have to do is comment “SCALE” on this post and sub to me free newsletter for a chance to win
Sign up here: operatorsnotebook.beehiiv.co…
Here’s how the giveaway will work:
> When we hit 3k subs on my newsletter, that unlocks the first two calls picked randomly from my email list
> When we hit 5k subs on my newsletter, that unlocks the next two calls again picked at random
(a total of four 1:1 calls with me to help you scale your app or biz)
And if this goes absolutely crazy and we hit 10k subs…
I’ll host an hour-long live call and answer any questions you guys have for free.
Right now I’m at about 2k subs
X, work your magic

We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so.
Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training.

I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.
If you're good at design, or have a sense of fashion,
We're currently doing a merch competition for Pushscroll:

The easiest way to stop copy cats in their tracks is to make shitty stuff that no one wants.
No one will copy you.
Youtube Shorts, Instagram Reels, Tiktok are in the top 10 worst things that happened to humanity as a whole.
Thoughts?
If you did a paywall experiment where you added an emoji to your paywall, and it increased your conversions by 40% or some insane number, i want you to do the following:
Make an A - A test (test the same paywall twice). Then look at the results after 50 conversions.
When we did this, one paywall had 20% more conversions. Just goes to show how much noise there is in experiments.
You need at least 300 conversions to clearly tell if an experiment is better or not.
If you want to risk a false positive or negative with fewer conversions for more speed, that's up to you.
People don't realize this app business is about retention which requires you to build a great product in the first place.
If you build a shitty product in 1 week and stop adding to it and just slap a yearly paywall infront, you will be surprised in a year that only 5% of people stayed for the subscription.
Your app should get 30-50% yearly renewals or have really solid weekly or monthly retention, that's what gets you a big exit, because those renewals are pure profit.
An insane 7 figure app exit is ALL in the renewals. It's by far the easiest way to get that huge bag.

copycats are everywhere in the app industry, that's a fact
but honestly that's just part of the game and always has been
facebook ads library → study competitors down to impressions, find inspiration, copy ads
sensortower → see what's performing across downloads and MRR, copy the leaders
tiktok/instagram → study what's going viral, rip winning hooks
copying is not the problem
what matters is your execution
Launched, scaled, sold: here's the 12 month story of Overcomer.
"It’s not as easy as everyone thinks it is. It might be easy to clone an app, but it’s hard to clone distribution."

Was anyone able to scale UGC and Ads at the same time? (like to serious scale)
Cause i think you pick either one, the other one suffers for some reason. Just a general observation, but looking for a counter example.
organic to start, paid to grow
I’ve always believed there’s no such thing as the “best” growth strategy only the one that fits you.
• Organic → more effort, higher margins.
• Paid ads → less effort, lower margins.
Organic gets much easier once you automate it or build a team.
Ads get much cheaper when you consistently produce winning creatives.
Every strategy has a trade-off. You don’t eliminate the cost you just choose which cost you’re willing to pay.
After getting absolutely destroyed by design twitter for this design for our share feature, here's the new and improved version using all the feedback.
What do you guys think now, all feedback is welcome.
Also, would you share this?
Purposefully make it ugly first, like literally do your best to make it as ugly as you can,
and then refine.
You need to get that shit out of your head before it leaves
This applies to everything in life.
Trying to work out a share overlay for our 100k MRR Push-Ups app Pushscroll.
Would you share something like this yourself?
Lmk what you think in the comments, curious if this is too much or just right.
