Late stage capitalism lazy lies:
Left: Prime Day deal: 53% off an $80 pair of pants!
Right: After Prime Day: Normally $39.99.
It should not be legal to inflate the list price to sucker people like that.

EXCLUSIVE: The new "Stargate" TV series has been axed at Amazon.
The show was first announced with a series order in November 2025 and hailed from showrunner Martin Gero, who was a writer on "Stargate SG-1" and "Stargate: Atlantis." Sources say Amazon execs were concerned that Gero's take on the series would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise's already dedicated fanbase.

Don't buy it now. This is the scare to make a buck, so then they triumphantly put it back in stores next year after a fake "sorry, due to popular demand..."
This is why pirating is a good thing. Fuck these corporations. Fuck Paramount. Choose Fitgirl or DODI

So true story, I used to design slot machines and casino signs and we got the contract to do the slots for this venue. Small problem, we were not allowed to have any explicitly Star Trek themed slots or signs. The Roddenberry estate was adamantly against that, so all the slots had to be Trek-esque, right up to the legal boundary of copyright laws, without actually being Trek. So weird.
At any rate, I was the only Trekkie, and practically the only nerd, in the whole the company, so I became the resident Trek expert, drawing the line for all these slots and signage so they were close enough to Trek to fit in, but not technically Trek.
And it was SOOOPER hard. Imagine not being able to say or reference "Tribbles" or "Dilithium Crystals" or "Warp drive" or even use the Trek Delta Insignia, and yet not make it just generic blah scifi. Trek has a very specific look, that was very hard to emulate without crossing the line.

Game designers figured this out decades ago and it cost millions in failed launches.
Will Wright built SimCity with a fully accurate traffic simulation. Testers hated it. The cars behaved realistically, which meant nobody could build a functioning city because real traffic is an unsolvable nightmare. He had to make the simulation dumber before the game became fun.
The tension is permanent: the more accurately you model a system, the more it punishes the participant. Real medieval economies kept 90% of the population in subsistence farming. A historically accurate fantasy world doesn't produce heroes. It produces serfs.
Tolkien solved this by making his economy deliberately vague. No one knows what a gold coin buys in Gondor. That ambiguity is a design choice, not a shortcut.
The Reddit post is funny. The lesson underneath it is one of the hardest problems in simulation design: fidelity and fun are opposing forces, and you have to pick which one wins.

Release the Cerveza Cristal cut!
#ReleaseTheCervezaCristalCut
When Star Wars began airing on television in 2003, Chile stitched the commercials into the films themselves to avoid cutting to commercial breaks
Lucasfilm, likely with George Lucas's approval, was upset by the unauthorized Cerveza Cristal ads inserted into Star Wars films aired on Chilean TV in 2003.
They filed a claim with Chile's advertising ethics council in 2004, citing copyright violations, and won, banning the ads.
