Why is this approach, which can be implemented quickly at minimal cost, not being considered for the A1 in Northumberland?

🚨Redheugh Bridge closed🚨 The Redheugh Bridge has this afternoon been closed due to high winds and motorists are being advised to only travel if necessary. We understand this causes further disruption with the closure of the Tyne Bridge but public safety must be a priority.

We’re glad someone is finally showing some urgency about A1 safety. Thank you @NorthumbriaOPCC & please do consider average speed cameras.
Average speed cameras would make a massive difference to safety in Northumberland’s rural roads and would help reduce congestion and emissions, while costing virtually nothing.

It was the singular focus on dualling that meant A1 safety improvements were delayed. The lesson to be learned from this is not to repeat the same mistake again.

New paper by the World’s most prominent climate scientists shows rapid acceleration of human-caused warming, with a warming rate now that tracks to near 2.4°C by 2050, far faster than was expected, if it continues. From paper: “We are witnessing the rapid destabilization of the Earth’s climate system. This is no longer a warning for the future; it is a diagnosis of the present. Earth’s life-support systems are being pushed beyond stable limits, with changes unfolding faster than our ability to respond. Human activities are driving profound shifts in the atmosphere, oceans, and biosphere.” Paper Link in replies… H/T @LeonSimons8 …

Of nearly 19,000 driving violations captured over two weeks, precisely zero drivers were prosecuted. This is because there isn't enough back-office capacity at West Midlands Police, and the process to issue fines hasn't kept pace with camera tech. bbc.com/news/articles/c39wzp…

Impact of a fuel duty cut when supply is constrained: Risks worsening shortages. Cheaper fuel boosts demand straining already limited supply & potentially leading to quicker stockouts/queues. High prices naturally ration scarce fuel by curbing non-essential use. By @grok
Cut rail fares. Cut bus fares. Slash fuel duty. Our plan to cut the cost of living and Keep Britain Moving. ⬇️
