Tearfully waving out the train window as my girlfriend runs alongside *45 minutes later* She's still keeping pace. It's inhuman. Everyone on the train is screaming. I'm begging her to stop but she can't hear me. Her eyes are pure white. Police helicopters circle overhead

The human brain is incredible. Itโ€™s capable of both engineering a life saving mRNA vaccine and deciding that anti-parasitic cattle paste is a better option. Just unbelievable range.

People always say cyclists need to be more afraid of cars, because in a collision, the car wins. It doesn't have to be like that. We can _both_ lose.

I strongly believe every developer should spend some time consulting for the same reason I think you should learn Haskell or ML. You probably won't stick to it, but it will forever change your perspective in important ways. You'll have a different mental stance.

A friend just shared a line from a student paper, "Despite being made in the late 1900s, many of the themes of The Matrix are still relevant today" and I can literally feel my body decaying in the grave.

I donโ€™t want a career, I want to wear a fancy robe covered in stars and dispense confusing and ambiguous advice to passing travelers from a large stone cottage on the edge of the woods where I live with a parliament of owls

THREAD: Lots of us learned classical music from watching old cartoons, so Iโ€™m going to identify the pieces that frequently popped up. One of the most recognizable is Franz Lisztโ€™s โ€œHungarian Rhapsody No. 2,โ€ performed by those great piano virtuosos Bugs Bunny and Tom & Jerry.

It's not an example of Godwin's law if you call someone a Nazi and it's because they are actual Nazis.

I finally found a way off all these spam call lists. I just answer my phone "Cyber crimes division, this is Ashley."

One thing I learned in my years of sciencing is that "omg they are SO SMART, I don't understand any of this" is actually "oh no, this person is not good at giving talks."

i will never get over the dissonance between how we call google/twitter/fb centres of "top engineering talent" despite the products released by such continually demonstrating otherwise

one of the worst things the tech industry ever did was convince men who were successful at tech that that means they can then be successful at anything, no matter how little knowledge they actually have about the matter

as someone who has been estranged from their mother for 15 years, I find articles like this incredibly harmful. those who decide to not accept abuse from family members already get so little support and understanding in society. these kinds of arguments only add to that.
In modern family life, many relations are based more on ties of affection than on duty. This makes it easier to free ourselves from hurtful or abusive family members, but it can also fuel estrangement in relationships that don't need to be lost forever: on.theatln.tc/4zlw0rq

basically everyone hiring computer people should be stumbling all over themselves trying to convince Chris to work for them.
This is going to be something of a work-in-progress for a while but here's a reminder that I am presently on the market and here's a resume-like thing! I do science-y things and ML/DL things and SRE-like things. Oh, and lotsa programming squanderingti.me/resume/
