Reinsurance is a perfect example of compounding advantages.
Long-term treaties create high switching costs. Decades of claims data create real data effects. Scale helps with diversification and capacity.
But what actually makes it stick is the relationships and underwriting knowhow. That’s hard to copy fast, even if you have the capital.
Moats! Does anyone have one anymore?
Yes. Yes, they do.
But only a small subset of what people call moats create real long-term value and defensibility.
Not actually a moat:
1. Distribution: This does matter more than ever. Building products has gotten easier, but getting them to customers has not. Distribution, however, does not create durable defensibility. It helps create the raw ingredients for one, but it is not itself a moat.
2. Execution: Yes, speed is critical for startups. But a company that has to sprint forever is not a good business. Ultimately, it will misstep, slow down, and competition will catch up. Speed gives a company more shots on goal as it tries to build a great product and a great business, but it must eventually find something more durable.
3. Brand: The idea is that when everyone is building the same thing, the most resonant brand will win. But for startups, brand works more like customer acquisition spend: Put money in, get growth out. It’s not something that will effectively keep others from competing long-term. Brand can become a true moat over time (as with Coke or Nike or Apple), but it just takes too long to really matter for most startups.
What you're looking for is compounding advantages: a self-reinforcing flywheel that gets stronger and stronger over time, ultimately making a company very hard to compete with long-term.
There are only four compounding advantages that really matter. Every major tech company has at least one:
1. Switching costs: The more deeply embedded a product is in the way a customer works, the harder it is for that customer to switch. This increases retention and revenue per customer, which can be reinvested into the product.
2. Network effects: The more users a product has, the better it gets for everyone. This increases engagement and attracts more users.
3. Scale economies: The more volume a company has, the larger and more efficient its operations can be. This lowers unit costs, funding lower prices or a better product at the same price, further driving up volume.
4. Data effects: The more usage a product has, the more data it generates. This data can be used to improve the product and increase usage.
If you can’t see the potential for any in the startup you’re considering joining, that’s a red flag.
In today’s incredible post, @danhockenmaier shares a simple framework you can run in about an hour after getting an offer:
1. Identify a startup’s compounding advantage
2. Gauge how strong it could get
3. Measure whether it’s working

i'm assembling a team
testing out the recent grok @bot update. each one solves a different problem:
> finding mentions for reUSD, reinsurance, etc. easy to miss when the main account isn't tagged
> scouting nice graphic visuals for inspiration
> running content research and things to react to
the goal is to be in more places at once. lets see how this goes 👀
You can just make things.
I took a Runway image of reUSD and had Opus 5.5 turn it into a 3D model
whats great about it is I can adjust the lighting and angle if I want still images
then I took the same model and animated this coin loop with Remotion and Claude
Opus is a huge help here because I can continue reusing the same consistent 3D model instead of remaking it each time in Runway.
No Remotion
No Hyperframes
Impressive to see how Calude motion turned a Infographic into a perfect motion graphic with minimal set of instructions
Sound was not upto the mark(subjective taste) tho synced perfectly
me trying to learn Grok @bot and @higgsfield_ai this week
(Re)tober is here. Enjoyed using Opus 5.5 for this video
If you're using Opus for motion, my biggest advice is to ask it to slow down and let the video pause / take a few breaths
Opus likes to speedrun it and doesn't realize the fast pace needs to be adjusted for the human eye
September was a productive month for Re:
• Total value locked: $717.36M
• Deposits: $324.0M, up from $256.4M on Aug 31
• Bound premium, inception to date: $510.6M
• Dec 2026 reUSD market went live on @ExponentFinance.
• On @Arbitrum, @0xfluid opened three new vaults: reUSD/USDC, reUSD/USDT, and reUSD-USDC LP/USDC.
• Reinsurance portfolio added three new lines of business: specialty auto, professional lines for startups, and large excess casualty.
(As of Oct 5th, 2026)
every day purchases compound over time
during the bear market, i would use my gemini card specifically for lunch and dinner because it gives 3% back for dining. i opted for SOL and staked it
this is mostly from buying food. bear markets are the best time to accumulate
oh, you want to make motion videos?
start by training your eye to good design. some brand accounts that do it well:
@aave
@kamino
@Plasma
@chainlink
notice the branding, transitions, pacing, messaging.
normally in a beginning video editing class, you learn by recreating a video from a set of instructions. prompting is great, but without building that core step, you're basically shooting blind.
If i were starting out, I would take one of these assets, try to recreate it with prompts, and dissect the details that make it great.
back in my day, this used to be a 3 day job between multiple people
its starting to become one marketer with a handful of ai credits
i think generalist marketers who can direct copy, design, video editing, and distribution will win in the long term.
can i come over and stare at you like this

PT looping is now much simpler.
No need to use Contango or Euler Multiply, and no need to leave the Pendle app.
One of the top PT looping opportunities right now is PT ethereum:0x5086bf358635b81d8c47c66d1c8b9e567db70c72 @re
You can earn up to 28% APY in this economy.
Meanwhile, $RE is still sitting at a $450M FDV with $570M in TVL.

so many tools nowadays are locked behind a paid subscription
i recommend this if you're looking to download x spaces / livestreams for content pieces
i created a site that allows you to download anything from X
- spaces
- livestreams
- gifs
- videos
surprisingly, it's done very well!
averaging 7.4k pageviews per month despite zero advertising done for it
i have added 3 ad slots available on this page for the first 3 projects that DM me here on X that want to sell something here to people downloading things from X
hit my DMs if interested in snagging one
