God forbid, if this country faces a water crisis in future, General Category will be left to die of dehydration.
Former ? 🤔
These are damning photos.
Former Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri must answer as to why he was meeting Jeffrey Epstein, even in an Ambassadorial capacity. I am given to understand that the Government of India will try and justify this engagement as "diplomatic necessity."
However, the terms and content of these disussions must now be made public. I am certainly hopeful that Ambassador Puri was not aware of any of the horrors of Epstein Island. I urge him to clarify his stance on the matter.
Good to see columnists in @businessline highlighting that states are yet to receive incentives under PM-PRANAM because the mechanism isnt in place
Would have been even better if my original story for @down2earthindia received a mention & credit for info

Maybe I will always hate the fact that news outlets never understood that major news takes place outside Delhi and in the hinterlands and rural areas and they would conside the roles to be based in Delhi. God forbid I be never a part of the Delhi journo networks.

Rubio must be fond of Jamnagari Ghughra and dry-fruit kachori.
That could be the only reason for going there.

When the government defies a court order, and the judge don't initiate contempt proceedings and punitive actions against the government...
Can contempt proceedings be initiated against the judge for not enforcing the court’s own order? 🤔

At least 16 journalists were brutally detained while covering public demonstrations in #India. In addition to the four journalists already mentioned, RSF has learned that Anushka Bhardwaj (#BusinessStandard), Hritik Joshi and Rahul Charas (@NavbharatTimes), Shoaib Daniyal (#Scroll), Anshu (@newslaundry ), Saurabh Sharma (@Reuters ), Jagriti Trisha (BOOM), Shivang Shukla (Mo), Neeraj Jha (@moliticsindia), and freelance journalist Paranjoy Guha Thakurta were also forcibly detained in #Delhi, along with Kinjal (@AltNews) in #Ahmedabad and Divya Aslesha (Scroll) in #Pune.
Covering events of public interest is not a crime. It is their job. The police's actions against the press are unacceptable.

Starlink-JIO saga: Who protects people?
Oligarchs, Indian or American, on own whims or driven by political masters can halt system.
They fuel regime change or help govt control democratic protests by shutting internet off.
In both, people/country are hostage & they suffer.
Elon cuts off starlink access to Ukraine, massively degrading its war waging capacity.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Starlink access to Ukraine has not been cut off; service continues for government-verified terminals under the existing whitelist system, while Ukrainian leaders have recently requested expanded capabilities rather than reporting any shutdown.

We have seen the OHCHR’s remarks about today’s events in New Delhi.
India is the world’s largest democracy, where the right to peaceful assembly is guaranteed by our Constitution and safeguarded by robust institutions, an independent judiciary and a free media. As in every democracy, Indian citizens exercise this right subject to reasonable restrictions in the interest of public order. The authorities, for their part, act in accordance with the law, and our courts remain available to all for redressal of any grievances.
The OHCHR’s concerns are therefore misplaced and constitute an unwarranted interference in the internal affairs of India.
In this context, OHCHR would also do well to devote comparable attention to large-scale protests elsewhere, consistent with its mandate of impartiality and non-selectivity.

What if the Supreme Court finds the government guilty of contempt of court?
Who will be sent behind bars?
The Solicitor General?
The Prime Minister?
The Council of Ministers?

I've seen many Rail Roko Andolans.
But this one is a bit weird.
People are doing Andolan. Govt is doing Rail Roko.
This is one of the simple and easy explanation about the issues related to ongoing SIR exercise.
Don’t miss this editorial page lead article by Srinivasan Ramani & Pon Vasanth B.A. in The Hindu (October 9, 2026). The article explains in clear, precise, and accessible terms what a massive scandal — an exercise fatally flawed in conception and design, and deliberately exclusionary in impact — the Gyanesh Kumar-directed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) was. It also draws attention to the Supreme Court of India’s failure in the big test and expresses the hope that it will now act decisively to undo the damage.

One important thing to understand is that the legal architecture around the right to protest in India remains colonial in its design, and the Supreme Court has been enforcing this colonial architecture since 1960. The Constitution did nothing to change this.
सत्ता की हवा का रुख बदल रहा है ...
Supreme Court directs that there shall be “no complete prohibition” on the movement of metro trains, asking authorities to allow metro and other railway services to operate in a suitably regulated manner ahead of the October 10 protests.
Supreme Court also directs authorities to give wide publicity to their decision to minimise inconvenience to commuters, keeping in mind the principle of proportionality.
Amid protests, why are trains the first to be cancelled, and not flights?
Why should ordinary people travelling by train bear the brunt of every protest, while the privileged flying by air remain unaffected?
