Remember when Trump's economic collapse was supposedly inevitable? The economy just grew 3.4%, beating expectations, while business equipment investment surged 20.9%, private domestic demand climbed 4.9%, and inflation-adjusted wages continued recovering. That's one hell of a collection of numbers for anyone who spent months warning that Trump's policies would send America straight into the economic toilet. And the details are even more remarkable. Consumer spending grew 3.8%. Nonresidential fixed investment jumped 12.7%. The service sector recorded its strongest expansion in more than five years. Even with international trade subtracting a staggering 3.32 percentage points from GDP, the economy accelerated. Then there's the paycheck comparison. During Biden's presidency, average weekly earnings rose 16.7% while consumer prices jumped 21.4%, producing a 3.9% decline in real weekly earnings. From January 2025 through August 2026, real weekly earnings increased 1.5%. Those figures present an increasingly awkward problem for the economic catastrophe narrative. And now comes the delicious fucking irony. NPR acknowledged that the economy is performing well. Over at MS NOW, the 3.4% GDP figure was greeted with the words “great” and “really strong.” Imagine spending months discussing the prospect of an economic disaster, only to find yourself reading numbers that describe accelerating investment, resilient consumers, and improving purchasing power. The contrast practically writes its own punchline. The real test of economic commentary is whether its predictions survive contact with actual economic data. Americans deserve serious explanations of GDP growth, inflation, wages, investment, and affordability, especially when the results challenge confident forecasts. Because a recession prediction is measurable. A claim that growth will collapse is measurable. And once the numbers arrive, the people who made those predictions ought to answer for them. The American economy delivered 3.4% growth. The recession narrative has some explaining to do. And the only collapse these particular predictions have conclusively produced is the collapse of their own credibility. (article below)
