Relatedly: thanks to @plfrnz, I have an essay—Semiautomatic—coming out next month in @LI_ALSCW, which examines writing with language models and the custody of judgment, especially how fluency can counterfeit confirmation.
New Anthropic research: How AI agents shape experts' judgment calls When experts delegate work to an agent, do they still make the key decisions? We tested this in a randomized trial with 50 professional data analysts.

There'ss a pathology in digitized young Americans where they will react to any innocuous sentiment of romantic idealism toward their home region/town/state with an immediate laundry list of economic and cultural woes. Disgustingly un-American—be proud of where you're from.

The minimal unit for self-conscious agency is 2; it is impossible to relate to yourself w/o at least one human recognizing you as human. Anyways its weird that dev. psych acknowledges the influence of others on infants but then does a 180 to say we are self-sufficient individuals

It's not easy being a state atheist moralist but, now more than ever, it is necessary.

It is a crime to live a wrong life, knowingly or while avoiding this knowledge, for there will be no great punishment that awaits you and no great award. Lacking a final arbiter and appraiser means that justice upon the Earth is only more paramount; it is the arena we have.

The tenets of contemporary Western Marxism have manifested untold cognitive decline and even collectively-imposed learning disabilities upon millions of people. For instance, the idea of alienation via compulsory sale of labor is imbued with inexorable psychological consequences.

Fin. Nice break between projects. Not much new to say but Wolfe is clearly the modern master of dramatic irony, misdirection, and (mis)foreshadowing. My favorite? USSR-in-space murder mystery with clones and magicians called "Cherry Jubilee".

The collapse of meaning into spiralic thought like this is itself an attempt to neutralize the most amorphous source of friction

Discovery will become an increasing problem everywhere. Long overdue.
Valve says a “significant number” of employees are working on Steam’s growing visibility problem as the platform becomes increasingly crowded with new releases. The company also says it won’t gatekeep games made with AI. “We don’t want to be gatekeepers telling developers which tools they should or shouldn’t use.” Valve wants to improve Steam’s discovery systems so good games can still stand out in an increasingly crowded store.
