“Here’s what reading about Alexander the Great’s conquest of Persia taught me about running a niche b2b content agency”
I see the LinkedIn post already
You know what, start with Dark Age
Here's how to navigate Pierce Brown's Red Rising Sci-Fi series, so you can get caught up before the new adaptation. bit.ly/4zKIsw5
“Tyler is obviously triggered! Rent free!!!”
Nah man, I think these indie hackers losing their minds about a $99/mo email software are insufferable
Get your bread up
Productive flight this morning:
• Wrote this week’s newsletter.
• Wrote a LinkedIn post for a webinar this week.
• Sent offer letter to a Content Writer candidate (signed!)
• Locked in expansion for a current client
• ~700 words logged for the novel :)
I've made it to the last chapter in Draft 2 of The Shattered Planet! Wrapping today or tomorrow, most likely. ~200,000 words. Whew. Lot of editing ahead.
I take that back the worst Red Rising take of all time is that book one “starts slow.”
I will hear the other criticisms of book one. It is the weakest of the series. But in no way is it SLOW with all that happens by page 50 (the end of Part I).
Perhaps the worst Red Rising take I’ve seen is that the “first trilogy” is where it peaks
Dark Age? Light Bringer?? Even Iron Gold isn’t as much of a slog as tiktok-brained readers make it seem
Same as the people who say Empire of Silence is “too slow”
I don’t love that the director choice is going to make people associate Red Rising with Hunger Games even more….aside from the first book (kind of) the two just aren’t even comparable
Yes
Hiring Francis Lawrence is both a total no-brainer and a hilarious creative trap.
Book one of Red Rising is essentially The Hunger Games in space; a brutal battle royale at the Institute designed to weed out the weak. He can shoot that in his sleep.
The real test is if Paramount has the stomach for what comes next: a crazy, R-rated Roman space opera filled with decapitations, nuclear orbital drops, and toxic sociopaths.
If they sanitize Darrow into Katniss with a scythe, the Howlers will riot
